It seems that there is a misconception that extractions automatically = bad. And while we prefer to keep all the teeth, sometimes the bones and the teeth don’t match from a size perspective. In some cases we can expand but in other cases it is still not enough, or sometimes we see patients who are too old for phase 1 expanders and they decline surgical expansion. And there are still patients who just no matter what you do the bone isn’t large enough to accommodate the tooth mass without risking periodontal issues.

This case shows that even with extractions arch forms and arch width have been maintained and even a little further developed.

AAO annual session happened earlier this month in Orlando FL. Annual session is always filled with long days of continuing education, fun events, connecting with friends and colleagues and seeing new technology.

Wrapped up the meeting by spending some extra time with my family who came down from Pennsylvania and friends we haven’t seen in awhile.
