আমাদের সমাজে প্রায় সময় আমরা "হাতুরে ডাক্তার" বলে একটা প্রবচন শুনে থাকি। এই প্রবচন দ্বারা সেসব মানুষদের বোঝানো হয়েছে, যারা কোন প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক শিক্ষা ছাড়াই সাধারন মানুষদের বিভিন্ন রোগের "তথাকথিত" চিকিৎসা দেয়। আমাদের ডেন্টিস্ট্রি তেও এরকম হাতুরে বা কোয়াক দের সমাজে দেখা যায়। কার্যত তাদের কোন প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক শিক্ষা একদমই নেই, হেতু তারা আন্দাজ মতো "তথাকথিত" চিকিৎসা দেয় সাধারন মানুষদের। এতে করে চিকিৎসা প্রাপ্তদের তো কোন উপকার তো হয়ই না, বরং বিভিন্ন ক্ষতি হয়ে থাকে, যা থেকে পরবর্তীতে অরো জটিল রোগের সৃষ্টি হয়ে থাকে।

তবে আসুন আমরা সচেতন হই, শুধু দুটো বিষয় দেখে আপনি ধরে ফেলতে পারবেন যে কে আসল ডেন্টাল সার্জন আর কে কোয়াক।

1. দেখতে হবে যে তার কোন বিডিএস (ব্যাচেলর অব ডেন্টাল সার্জারি) ডিগ্রি আছে কিনা এবং সেটি কোন স্বীকৃত মেডিকেল কলেজ কিংবা ডেন্টাল কলেজ থেকে অর্জিত কিনা।

2. প্রত্যেক বিডিএস ডিগ্রিধারী ডেন্টাল সার্জনদের বিএমডিসি (বাংলাদেশ মেডিকেল এন্ড ডেন্টাল কাউন্সিল) কর্তৃক একটি স্বতন্ত্র রেজিস্ট্রেশন নম্বর দেওয়া হয়। সেই নম্বরটি আছে কিনা তা যাচাই করে দেখবেন।

বড় করে দাঁত ফুটা করা, রক্ত দেখে খুশি হওয়া, পাল্প চেম্বারে ডিভাইটালাইজার দিয়ে কয়েকদিন রেখে দেয়া, যে কয়টা ক্যানেল পাওয়া যায় সেগুলোতে কিছুক্ষণ গুতাগুতি করা, সেগুলোতেই কোনোমতে কয়েক মিমি সিংগেল জিপি ঢুকানো, টিএফ দিয়ে ক্লোজ করে দেয়া, দাঁত কেটেকুটে বাইট ফ্রি ক্যাপ লাগিয়ে দেয়া। পুরা প্রসিডিওরে রোগীর তেমন কোনো ব্যাথা হলোনা।
