The utter savagery of Belfast is not diminished by the fact it was not new, nor confined to this disunited kingdom. Nor by the fact that the victim had earlier been tortured not by a Sudanese savage but by the very “loyalist” murder gangs now burning out the homes of “immigrants” from the very global south we once terrorised for our masters’ profit even in my own lifetime.
It is not minimised by the fact that only a few short years ago our country supplied sharp swords and knives to ISIS and Al Qaeda in Syria in a sick crusade of heart-eating and beheading against the ruling Arab nationalist regime in Syria.
It is not minimised by the fact that in the name of BRITISH rule in SOUTH EAST ASIA we paid a bounty for the severed heads of Malay people (the people of my own wife and the grandparents of half my children) who opposed BRITISH rule in their country.
It is not and can not be minimised by anything or anyone.
The slaughter or fear of it of innocent civilians is terrorism. In any language in any religion. That we can never let slip our memory. Memory near or far.
Politicians who forget it must be condemned. Hypocrites who support some terrorists while opposing others are beneath contempt.
