The bacteria that cause gum diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis can travel through the bloodstream, leading to inflammation and damage in your blood vessels.

For diabetics, the connection is even more serious — high blood sugar can damage your teeth, and in turn, dental issues can make blood sugar harder to control.

It’s a vicious cycle that many people don’t realize.

The result? Cavities can literally lead to heart disease and even death — especially in those with preexisting health conditions. But despite how crucial dental health is, teeth are often treated as “luxury bones.”

Dental care, including cleanings and maintenance, is rarely fully covered by insurance. It’s a particularly prominent problem in the US, leaving many to deal with the consequences of untreated problems.

And if a tooth infection spreads, it can quickly become a life-threatening issue by traveling to the brain or bloodstream.

Humans have been performing dentistry since 7000 BCE:

Dentistry is one of the world’s oldest medical professions, dating back more than 9,000 years.

The earliest records of dentistry date to 7000 BCE

By 5000 BCE, Sumerian texts mentioned tooth decay, attributing it to "tooth worms"— an idea that wasn't debunked until the 1700s.

In 1840, the first dental college opened in the U.S., soon followed by the formation of the American Dental Association.

Harvard founded the first university-affiliated dental school in 1867. Meanwhile, dental innovations emerged, such as Colgate’s mass-produced toothpaste in 1873 and toothbrushes soon after.

Interestingly, good oral hygiene wasn’t widely practiced in the U.S. until after World War II, when soldiers brought back brushing habits from abroad.

আসসালামু আলাইকুম। আজ থেকে ৫ বছর আগে, ১০/০৯/২০১৯ তারিখেই শুরু হয় ডেন্টাল ডায়েরির যাত্রা। শুরু থেকেই আমাদের চেষ্টা ছিল রোগিদের সর্বোচ্চ মানের দন্তচিকিৎসা সেবা প্রদানের। সর্বক্ষেত্রে সফল হয়েছি সে দাবি করছি না, কিন্তু এতোটুকু বলতে পারি একজন রোগির ক্ষেত্রেও আমাদের চেষ্টার কমতি ছিল না।

বিগত ৫ বছর যেভাবে আমাদের সাথে ছিলেন, আশা করি সামনের দিনগুলোতেও সেভাবেই আমাদের পাশে থাকবেন। সবাইকে আন্তরিক ধন্যবাদ এই যাত্রায় আমাদের সফরসঙ্গী হওয়ার জন্য।
