Did you know that 2 in 3 people visit the dentist when they have a problem, rather than a regular check-up?

Keep your smile for life by seeing your dentist every 6 months!

Seeing your local National Dental Care dentist for a check-up and clean every six months is an important part of your oral health routine. If it’s been a while since you saw your dentist due to lockdown or other reasons, here’s what to expect in your twice-yearly check-up:

⭐ An oral inspection to assess your mouth and check for cavities, gum disease, and any other oral health issue.

⭐ A professional clean involving an in-depth brush and floss of your teeth.

⭐ An opportunity to ask questions or raise any concerns you may have about your oral health with your dentist.

⭐ Your follow-up appointment booking, usually in six months’ time unless there are any issues that need to be addressed sooner.

Keeping up a healthy diet is key to maintaining good oral health! As well as eating plenty of calcium, a healthy diet should be high in vegetables and whole grains, and low in sugar and acidic foods. Follow our top diet tips below:

⭐️ Keep up your calcium intake for healthy teeth and bones. Calcium-rich foods include dairy products like milk, cheese and yoghurt, as well as green leafy vegetables such as broccoli.

⭐️ Aim to eat plenty of vegetables and fruit, as well as complex carbohydrates such as grain breads and protein.

⭐️ Minimise your intake of food and drinks that are high in sugar to avoid cavities and tooth decay.

⭐️ Avoid too many teeth-staining beverages such as coffee, tea and red wine.

⭐️ Swap sugary snacks for healthy alternatives, like vegetable sticks with hummus, nuts, or plain yoghurt.

Flossing is a crucial part of removing debris from your mouth, and keeping your teeth and gums clean and healthy. If you’re confused about the best way to floss, follow our top tips below:

⭐ You should floss your teeth at least once a day
⭐ It’s best to floss before you brush your teeth
⭐ Floss around the base of each tooth, ensuring you go beneath the gum line
⭐ Take care not to snap or force the dental floss, as this can damage the gum tissue

Did you know that 1 in 5 adults brush only once a day?

Keep your 😄smile😄 for life by brushing your teeth for two minutes, twice a day!

Brushing your teeth may seem like the most basic task, but it can be easy to slip into bad habits that mean we aren’t brushing in the most effective way. Here are some pointers to make sure you’re brushing like a pro:

1) Brush for two minutes, twice a day (you might want to set a timer)

2) Use an electric toothbrush - it does the hard work for you!

3) If using a manual toothbrush, use circular motions to brush

4) Brush around the gum line as well as your teeth

5) Be sure to brush your tongue using a tongue cleaner or your toothbrush

6) After brushing, rinse with mouthwash to freshen up
