In Memory of Aunty Eva Kennedy
With the approval of Aunty Eva’s family, we wish to inform our TAIHS community of the unfortunate passing of one of our longest-serving Board Directors, Aunty Eva Kennedy.
Aunty Eva with respected elders in the community, gathered signatures to support the establishment of the TAIHS Medical Service. Following its opening in 1974 she served as the First Steering Committee's Secretary. Aunty Eva then went on to dedicate over 24 years to our Board, marking the longest tenure of any member since our organisation was founded 52 years ago.
Her strength and skills greatly enriched our organisation. Her unwavering commitment and passion for community service set a standard that will continue to inspire future generations.
Throughout her tenure, Aunty Eva was instrumental in initiating numerous programs that addressed key issues such as homelessness, healthcare, and compassion.
Aunty Eva's ability to connect with people and her genuine care for everyone's well-being made her a beloved figure within our community. Her wisdom and empathy were evident in every decision she made, always prioritising the collective good over personal interest.
In addition to her contributions to our Board, Aunty Eva was a tireless advocate for Indigenous rights and empowerment. She worked closely with local leaders to promote cultural awareness and inclusion, helping to create a stronger, more cohesive community.
Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched and the initiatives she created. Aunty Eva will be dearly missed, but her spirit and dedication will continue to guide us as we strive to uphold the values she cherished so deeply.
