🦷 Myth vs Fact: Dental Edition
There are plenty of dental myths out there, so here’s a quick fact check:

Myth: “If nothing hurts, everything is fine.”
Fact: Some dental issues don’t cause any discomfort in the early stages, which is why regular check‑ups help monitor changes over time and catch problems in the early stages.

Myth: “Baby teeth don’t matter because they fall out.”
Fact: Baby teeth play an important role in speech, eating and guiding the adult teeth into position. It is important to look after them and keep them clean and healthy, just as it is for the adult teeth.

If you enjoy these, let us know :)
We can share more 'myth‑busting moments' throughout the year.

Top 10 Wisdom Teeth FAQs - Answered

Wisdom teeth are a common topic of curiosity, especially for teens, young adults and parents. Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions people in Toowoomba search for when learning about wisdom teeth.

1️⃣ What are wisdom teeth?
They are the last molars to develop, usually appearing in the late teens or early twenties.

2️⃣ Why do some people have problems with them?
For many people, there isn’t enough space for wisdom teeth to come through properly, which can lead to crowding or gum inflammation.

3️⃣ What does “impacted” mean?
An impacted wisdom tooth is one that doesn’t have enough room to erupt and may be angled or trapped against the tooth in front.

4️⃣ Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed?
Not always. Some come through without concern. Others may be monitored over time.

5️⃣ How do dentists assess wisdom teeth?
X‑rays help show the position, angle and development of the teeth beneath the gums.

6️⃣ What age do wisdom teeth usually appear?
Most commonly between 17 and 25, though timing varies from person to person.

7️⃣ Can wisdom teeth cause discomfort?
Some people experience pressure or tenderness as the teeth develop, while others notice no symptoms at all.

8️⃣ What is a “partially erupted” wisdom tooth?
This is when part of the tooth breaks through the gum while the rest remains covered, which can make the area harder to keep clean.

9️⃣ Can wisdom teeth affect nearby teeth?
In some cases, pressure from an impacted tooth may contribute to crowding or food trapping around the back molars.

🔟 Where can I learn more?
We’ve put together a detailed educational page explaining how wisdom teeth form, what “impacted” means, and what an assessment involves:

Mother’s Day was on Sunday, but our appreciation for the mothers in our lives lasts far beyond one day.

To all the mums, step‑mums, grandmothers, carers, mother‑figures and the women who quietly hold families together, thank you.

Thank you for the unseen work, the late nights, the early mornings, the hopes you carry, and the whispered prayers you send into the world for the people you love.

Thank you for loving us even when we’re… well… a little annoying.
And for still loving us when we forget to clean our teeth, skip the flossing, or need reminding about things we should absolutely know by now - especially as fully grown adults.

Your patience, love, humour and resilience don’t go unnoticed.
We’re grateful for you, yesterday, today and every day.

From all of us at Bridge Street Dental Toowoomba 🌼

Wisdom Teeth - What You Should Know
Wisdom teeth (also called third molars) are the last teeth to come through the gums, usually appearing in the late teens or early twenties. For many people, there isn’t enough space for them to erupt properly, which can lead to discomfort, crowding, or infection.

Sometimes wisdom teeth remain impacted - meaning they’re wedged against the tooth in front - and may cause issues such as food trapping, gum inflammation, or pressure on nearby teeth. In other cases, they cause no concern at all.

Dentists often assess wisdom teeth using X‑rays to understand their position and development. If there’s a risk of problems, your dentist may discuss whether removal is appropriate.

At Bridge Street Dental Toowoomba, our team provides information and assessments for people researching wisdom teeth removal in Toowoomba and Wilsonton. We also offer procedures under general anaesthetic at St Andrew’s Hospital for suitable cases.
