1. “My teeth got more protrusive after braces” is a real concern. Straight teeth are not always the same as a balanced face. If your teeth are pushed outward just to create space, you can end up liking your smile less after treatment.
2. “Wider” is not always better. Making every smile broader or pushing teeth outward works beautifully for some faces and looks completely wrong on others. Treatment should fit your face, not trends.
3. “Your lips don’t close properly” is not just cosmetic.
Many Asians grew up thinking lip strain or mouth protrusion was just “how our family looks.” Sometimes it’s actually a bite problem that can be treated.
4. “They said to just wait and see” can become a problem for some underbites.
Underbites are more common in Asian patients, and timing matters more than people realise. Some kids only have a short window where growth can still be guided early before surgery becomes the only option later.
5. Sometimes family comments shape your insecurities more than strangers do.
“Your mouth sticks out.” “Don’t smile too wide.” “Your chin is weak.” Many of you still remember comments like this years later, even when they were said casually at home.
6. A lot of you waited years before getting orthodontic treatment.
Not because you didn’t notice the problem, but because you were taught to tolerate it, minimise it, or not prioritise yourselves.
