🛑 Implant Not an Option? Here’s Your Plan B: The Dental Bridge! 🌉

In our last post, we talked about the power of a dental implant (our titanium root replacement!). But sometimes, a different, equally effective solution is needed: the Dental Bridge.

A bridge replaces your missing tooth by using the natural teeth on either side of the gap as strong anchors.

Why might we choose a bridge over an implant?

Existing Needs: If those neighbouring teeth already require crowns or extensive repair, a bridge allows us to fix the support teeth and replace the missing one at the same time—a true two-in-one fix.

Faster Timeline: Bridges are typically a quicker solution, requiring fewer visits and less healing time than implant surgery. ⏱️

Health or Bone Challenges: If you have certain medical conditions or insufficient jawbone to support an implant, a non-surgical bridge is a safe and reliable option. 🦴❌

👉 Swipe to see the seamless difference! We restored this smile using both a Ceramic Bridge (Image 1) and a Maryland Bridge (Image 2).

It’s not just filling a gap; it’s restoring confidence and function—sometimes without surgery!

🦷 💪🏻Missing a tooth?

A dental implant is the strongest, most natural way to replace a missing tooth. It’s a permanent solution that restores both function (giving you back serious chewing power) and aesthetics (ensuring a perfect, seamless match).

How it works: An implant is a titanium “root” placed securely in the jawbone, which then supports a custom-made crown (the visible tooth part). It acts just like a natural tooth—stable, durable, and ready for your best smile!

It’s the closest thing to having your natural tooth back.

Dental artistry meets natural beauty ✨

Our goal for this young patient wasn’t a complete overhaul—it was all about enhancing her already beautiful smile to look straighter, brighter, and perfectly seamless yet conservative.

We achieved this by first using clear aligners to gently perfect the foundation, specifically addressing the patient’s concerns regarding her two front teeth looking slightly too large and gappy. This was followed by professional whitening to take the shine level up.

The final finesse work involved utilizing just two meticulously placed composite veneers to perfectly widen and freshen the edges of her smile, resulting in a look that is entirely her—just brighter, straighter, and full of confidence!

Ready to learn how we can design your perfect, subtle transformation?

✨ From worn and hidden to bright and confident ✨

This smile makeover combined gentle crown lengthening surgery to reveal more natural tooth structure with the restoration of worn teeth using handcrafted porcelain crowns.

Years of acid wear and bruxism (teeth grinding) had hidden this smile’s true potential—now it shines with balance, harmony, and strength.

A transformation that’s as functional as it is beautiful 💎🦷

Ever notice how crowded lower front teeth can make smiling and cleaning a challenge? That’s exactly what we helped our patient fix with clear aligners.

When teeth don’t have enough room, they overlap and create tight spaces where plaque loves to hide—making it harder to keep gums healthy and increasing the risk of cavities. Clear aligners work behind the scenes, gently moving each tooth into a perfect place without the discomfort or look of metal braces.

The best part? Because they’re removable, patients can keep their teeth and aligners super clean throughout treatment, protecting against decay and gum issues. Plus, a straighter smile isn’t just easier to care for—it’s a huge confidence booster!

If lower tooth crowding is holding back your smile or oral health, chat with us about how clear aligners can quietly transform your teeth—and your confidence.

Disclaimer: Every smile is different, so results can vary from person to person. A consultation with a qualified dental professional will help determine the treatment options best suited to you. Not all treatments are right for everyone, but you can feel confident knowing our practice follows the highest standards of care, health, and safety.

A Child’s First Dental Visit Should Be an Adventure, Not an Appointment.

We’ve all seen it—the nervous grip on a parent’s hand, the look of uncertainty in a child’s eyes before a dental visit. But what if it didn’t have to be that way?

We believe that a child’s relationship with their dentist should start with trust and a smile. Just look at these two beautiful, happy girls! They weren’t just here for a check-up; they were here to have a positive, fun experience that makes them excited to come back. That’s the Arc Dental way.

We’re passionate about making sure our youngest patients feel safe, heard, and completely at ease. From the moment they walk through our doors, our team works to create an environment where they can be themselves. Because when a child feels comfortable, we can teach them the joy of taking care of their teeth—a lesson that will last a lifetime.

Starting early isn’t just about preventing cavities; it’s about giving your child the best possible start. It’s about building a foundation of confidence and good habits that will lead to a lifetime of healthy, beautiful smiles.

We would love to welcome your family to ours. Come see the difference a caring, positive experience can make.

Exciting news from Boston!

Dr. Yi Chan recently attended the International Symposium of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry in Boston, USA, soaking up insights from truly innovative speakers.

It was inspiring to delve into the cutting-edge developments shaping our field, and a delight to bump into Melbourne’s own Periodontist Dr. Stephen Chen. This connection reinforced our local dental community’s shared dedication to excellence and staying at the forefront of the field.

We’re committed to bringing these latest advances back to our Surrey Hills patients, ensuring you receive the best possible care!

A new review published in the Medical Research Archives (June 2025) highlights a growing concern in dentistry and medicine: the link between oral biofilms and major systemic diseases like diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and pancreatic cancer. Oral biofilms are structured colonies of bacteria that stick to teeth and gums—commonly seen as plaque. While we’ve long known they cause gum disease, this study shows they may also contribute to much more serious health problems.

Researchers explain that when these biofilms cause chronic inflammation in the mouth (like in periodontitis), bacteria and inflammatory molecules can enter the bloodstream. This can disrupt other organs and systems. In patients with diabetes or kidney disease, this added inflammation may worsen their condition. Even more striking, some evidence suggests biofilm-related inflammation may influence cancer development in the pancreas.

This research reinforces the idea that oral health is directly connected to overall health. Maintaining good oral hygiene—brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits—is not just about protecting your teeth, but possibly about preventing or managing life-threatening diseases too. As dentists, this underlines our role in early detection and prevention beyond the mouth.
