🦷✨ Your Mouth and Your Body: The Connected Health Connection! ✨🫀
A fantastic turnout at the Balwyn Community Centre! We recently hosted our collaborative seminar featuring Dr. Yi Chan from Arc Dental Surrey Hills and ex-oral health therapist Susan Morgan.
The biggest takeaway? Your mouth is a gateway to your overall health, and the link between periodontal (gum) disease and systemic health is much closer than you think!
Many of our attendees were amazed to learn that harmful gum bacteria don’t just stay in the mouth. If left unchecked, these bacteria can enter the bloodstream, traveling to other parts of the body and triggering chronic, systemic inflammation that can drive serious disease.
Here are the key connections we broke down:
❤️ Periodontal vs. Cardiovascular Health: How unchecked gum inflammation can contribute to clogged arteries and increase heart disease risks.
🩸 Diabetes: A dangerous two-way street—active gum disease worsens blood sugar control, while managing it helps stabilize your levels.
🧠 Cognitive Health: The surprising, critical links between chronic oral inflammation and cognitive decline.
🧠 Stroke: How untreated oral infections can elevate systemic cardiovascular risks.
The most important lesson of the day? Prevention is everything.
Because gum disease often starts silently, regular maintenance and early detection are the ultimate keys to stopping this bacteria in its tracks before it impacts your broader health.
Thank you so much to everyone who attended! We received such wonderful feedback, and we love seeing our community get proactive about their holistic well-being. It was truly an eye-opening session for all, and we hope to return for a second round in the near future!
