Research is continuing to uncover links between gum disease and dementia, with studies suggesting that people with certain types of gum disease have a higher risk of developing dementia, by as much as 54%.

While these links have been recognised for some time, a growing body of research is providing more insight into the relationship between oral health and overall health.
