We're in the camp of everything in moderation! But the truth of the matter is that there are some foods and drinks that will indeed make our teeth sad (hello cavities and tooth decay). And while it's the same for big and little people, our kiddos are more susceptible to sad teeth.

Some tips for our kids when it comes to eating and drinking:
🍨 Enjoy the ice-cream etc, just follow it up with some water to wash down the residual sugar
🥕 Opt for crunchy fresh fruit and veges to really train up those jaw muscles to support healthy teeth
🧃 If it's juice or something fizzy, try to avoid sipping it over a large period of time - down it and follow it up with some water
🍭 Avoid sticky, chewy sugary items

Our Happy/Sad Teeth activity is also something fun to pass the time on a rainy day - cut up some pictures of grocery items and have a chat with your kids about what might make your teeth happy or sad.

Teeth grinding or clenching isn't something that will just go away with stress management alone. You need a dental assessment, not just for the cracked teeth that you'll most likely be sporting, but also for the underlying reasons that you're grinding and wearing your teeth down at night.

It's closely related to sleep disorder breathing (think obstructive sleep apnea). In children, it might present as a squeaking sound accompanied by loud breathing and restless sleep overnight. In adults, it will look like headaches, jaw pain, snoring, scalloping around the tongue and cheeks and damage to your teeth (think fractures, chips, worn down enamel).
