Five years can tell you a lot about a treatment.

When this patient first came to ArtSmiles, eating had become difficult. He was missing several back teeth, others were failing, and without that support his front teeth were taking more pressure than they should.

The treatment took around 11 months, including time to treat the infection, rebuild lost bone, place six implants and allow everything to heal properly.

Five years later, his gums are healthy and his implants are stable. He can still eat normally.

There have been a couple of small maintenance issues along the way, both picked up during regular check-ups. He has been in every six months since.

When teeth wear down, chip and change colour at the same time, it is usually because the way the mouth closes has changed. The bite drops, the teeth grind against each other in a position they were never meant to sit in, and the damage keeps going because nothing has been done about the cause. Whitening a mouth in that state, or replacing the worst two or three teeth, leaves the same problem running underneath.

So the work starts with function. How the jaw closes, how much height the teeth have lost, where the load is landing, and what has to be rebuilt before anything is decided about shape or colour. Once that is settled, the appearance is planned on top of a bite that works.

A full mouth rehabilitation is a structural job first, and the way it looks at the end is what happens when the structure is right.

More than ten years of grinding had worn her teeth down, some almost to the gum line. Her bite had collapsed and her lower face had started to look sunken and tense.

She arrived having already looked at fillers and even surgery. But the cause was not in her skin. It was in her bite.

This video walks through how the bite was rebuilt, step by step:

▪️ The bite was opened by 4mm, giving the teeth space and bringing the lower face back to a natural proportion
▪️ The gum line was gently reshaped so there was enough tooth showing to build on

Many times, the question isn't whether you can have a cosmetic treatment. It's why you want one.

A full mouth rehabilitation looks at the whole smile at once instead of tooth by tooth. Shape, colour and the way the top and bottom teeth meet get planned together, so the result stays balanced and still looks like you.

Because it all comes from one plan, the proportions and colour stay consistent across the whole smile, and that balance is what keeps it from looking artificial.
