During Dental Health Week, we’ve talked about the links between oral diseases and diseases in the body. 🦷⭐️
Our final post examines Inflammatory bowel disease - a broad term for diseases involving inflammation in the gut.

There is early evidence indicating a link between severe gum disease and inflammatory bowel diseases. Find out more at https://www.teeth.org.au/teeth/Mouth-and-body-are-connected/For-Patients/Bowel-Disease

And remember, a visit to your dentist for face-to-face advice is the best way to get your questions answered. If you are looking for information, head to teeth.org.au for up-to-date oral health advice written by dentists from around Australia.

Dental Health Week (DHW) is the Australian Dental Association’s major annual oral health campaign 🦷✨
https://www.teeth.org.au/dental-health-week

This year, DHW focuses on the mouth and whole-body connection. There are links between diseases in the mouth and diseases in the body. Bacteria in the mouth can travel to different sites of the body and inflammation in the mouth can increase the body’s overall inflammation. Several conditions have been explored in how they link with oral health and each day during DHW, we will expand on a different condition.

A visit to your dentist for face-to-face advice is the best way to get your questions answered, so make an appointment today!

COVID-19 UPDATE

Dental clinics in Australia are currently operating under Level 2 restrictions due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. This means that dental clinics are only able to provide some dental treatment, and must avoid or minimise any procedures that are likely to produce aerosols. This restriction limits the treatment we are able to offer and as a result our hours of operation are reduced. We are now open from 8:30am to 1pm, Monday to Friday. A limited number of afternoon appointments are available; please advise our receptionist if you need an afternoon appointment. All appointments must be made by telephoning 9437 9999, so we have temporarily disabled our online booking platform.

It is imperative that you tell our receptionist if you are suffering from any of the following symptoms: sore throat, fever, cough, shortness of breath, or diarrhoea. If you have travelled overseas in the last month, you must inform our receptionist. You must also inform us if you have reason to believe that you may have come into contact with a confirmed or suspected COVID-19 case, or if you yourself are a confirmed or suspected COVID-19 case. We will also ask you to use hand sanitiser on entering and exiting the clinic. And we will get you to do a pre-treatment mouthwash with 1% hydrogen peroxide for 20 seconds at the beginning of your appointment.

We aim to do everything possible to keep ourselves, our staff and our patients safe in this difficult and challenging environment. We will also do our best to manage any dental emergencies that our patients may present with.

That's the question being asked in a hard-hitting new initiative from Rethink Sugary Drink (of which the ADA is a part) which aims to educate people on how much sugar is in the drinks they consume.
