WHAT ARE VENEERS REALLY COSTING YOU?
It's important to understand the full picture, beyond just the aesthetic benefits. Veneers can be a great cosmetic solution, but they come with a significant, long-term biological cost to your teeth.
Here's what you need to know before you commit:
* Irreversible Procedure: To place traditional veneers, a thin layer of your natural tooth enamel must be permanently removed. Since enamel doesn't grow back, your teeth will always need to be covered by veneers or crowns.
* Increased Sensitivity: Removing the enamel can expose the more sensitive dentine layer underneath, which can lead to increased and sometimes prolonged sensitivity to hot and cold foods.
* Ongoing Maintenance and Cost: Veneers aren't a one-time treatment. They have a limited lifespan and will eventually need to be replaced, which can be a more complex procedure than the initial placement.
* Risk of Decay: The tooth underneath the veneer is still susceptible to decay, especially if the veneer isn't fitted properly, creating a space for bacteria to enter.
Our goal isn't to discourage you from getting veneers, but to make sure you're fully informed about the potential long-term effects on your oral health. Before you decide, we'd love to discuss all your options with you.
