We were proud to sponsor ANZAOS 2026 this past Saturday. 🦷

The Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral Surgeons brought together specialists and general dentists at the Hilton Hotel, Sydney for a day of education, discussion, and connection β€” and we were glad to be part of it.

Thanks to the ANZAOS committee for having us, and to everyone who stopped by to chat.

The provisional isn't a placeholder. It's a working prototype for the final restoration. 🧩

In implant and anterior cases especially, the provisional trains the soft tissue, tests the occlusal scheme, and confirms the aesthetics before anything is committed in ceramic. Skip that step, and the definitive crown inherits every unresolved problem β€” an over-contoured emergence, a heavy contact, a papilla that never had a chance to form.

A well-made provisional gives you a blueprint. Scan it, and the lab can replicate exactly what worked in the final.

At NovaDent Labs, your digital dental laboratory, we fabricate provisionals designed to be used as diagnostic tools β€” and we duplicate the successful ones into your definitive restorations.

A crown that feels high at seating usually isn't a lab error β€” it's a records error. 🎯

If the bite registration was taken at the wrong vertical, the opposing model was distorted, or the mounting didn't reflect the patient's actual closure, the lab builds occlusion to a reality that doesn't exist in the mouth. The crown is an accurate restoration of inaccurate information.

This is why an accurate opposing model, a verified bite, and clear notes on the occlusal scheme matter so much. Get those right, and the crown seats into function instead of standing proud.

At NovaDent Labs, we design against accurate records and flag registrations that look off β€” so you're not grinding in contacts at the seat appointment.

If you haven't submitted a case digitally yet, it's simpler than it sounds. πŸ’»

Scan the prep and opposing arch, upload the STL file through the Clinic Portal, and prescribe the case with your notes and photos attached. No impression to package, no courier to wait on β€” it's in our CAD queue within minutes.

At NovaDent Labs, your digital dental lab, we accept all major intraoral scanner formats through the same portal.

Full arch implant cases don't usually fail on the surgery. They fail on the records. πŸ—οΈ

An inaccurate jaw relation, an unverified implant position, or a distorted master cast introduces error that compounds through every stage β€” from framework fit to occlusion to aesthetics. By the time it shows up at try-in, you're troubleshooting backwards through the whole workflow.

This is why verification jigs, photogrammetry, and confirmed vertical dimension records matter so much. Get the foundation right, and the prosthesis follows.

At NovaDent Labs, your dental laboratory partner, we support full arch cases with digital planning and precise framework design β€” and we'll tell you when a record needs re-taking before we build on it.

The digital versus conventional debate isn't settled β€” because the answer depends on the case. πŸ’»

Intraoral scanning wins on patient comfort, instant feedback, no distortion on removal, and a workflow that skips shipping physical impressions. For most crown and bridge, inlay, onlay, and many implant cases, a well-captured scan is at least as accurate as a conventional impression β€” and a lot more pleasant for the patient.

Conventional impressions still hold their ground in deep subgingival margins where soft tissue management is difficult, and in some full arch situations where cumulative scan error can creep in.

The best practices use both β€” the right tool for the case, not a blanket rule.

At NovaDent Labs, we accept all major scanner formats and conventional impressions alike β€” so you choose the workflow that fits the case.

Going digital doesn't lower the bar for prep quality β€” it raises it. πŸ’»

A dental scanner records exactly what's there. An indistinct margin, a subgingival finish line lost in tissue, an undercut that blocks the path of insertion β€” all captured in high resolution and passed straight to the design software. The technology doesn't interpret intent; it reproduces reality.

The practices getting the most out of digital workflows are the ones treating prep design as more important than ever β€” clear margins, adequate reduction, smooth transitions.

At NovaDent Labs, your digital dental lab, we work with all major dental scanner formats and flag prep issues before design begins β€” so you find out at submission, not at seating.

The emergence profile is where beautiful implant restorations quietly go wrong. πŸ“

Push the contour out too aggressively in the subcritical zone and you compress the tissue, disturb the blood supply, and set up chronic inflammation around an otherwise perfect fixture. In a 3-year randomised trial, convex profiles showed 3–4x more mid-facial recession than concave ones.

The critical contour just below the margin shapes the gingival outline. The subcritical zone deeper down should be flat or slightly concave to give tissue room to sit. Small changes here have outsized effects on the final aesthetics and long-term health.

At NovaDent Labs, we design implant emergence profiles that work with the biology, not against it. If you have questions about a specific case, reach out to us through the website.

Going through a digital dental lab isn't just faster β€” it's more predictable at every stage. πŸ’»

From scan capture to CAD design, digital manufacturing, and hand finishing, each step reduces variability and increases accuracy. But the fundamentals still matter β€” a clean scan in means a precise restoration out.

Swipe through for how a modern digital case actually moves from your chair to the lab and back.

At NovaDent Labs, we run fully digital workflows and accept all major dental scanner formats β€” with a 5–9 business day turnaround nationwide.
