We thought we would share what the Australian Dental Association has on this topic.
At Port Lincoln Dental, we are always keeping an eye on research, new developments and new treatments to prevent disease.
Although relatively understudied to this point, with the development of new tools, allowing unprecedented ways to exam oral microbiomes.
Clinicians and researchers are more focused on developing new treatments and prevention strategies.
Our oral microbiome is the second most diverse, after the gut.
So stay tuned, we are as excited as you to hear more!

Did you know that the bacteria which causes gingivitis can travel to your brain as well.

Studies have revealed a compelling connection between the bacteria linked to gum disease and cognitive decline & Alzheimer’s.

Commonly associated with gingivitis, the bacterium known as P.gingivalis has the unsettling ability to migrate to the brain. There, it produces enzymes called gingipains which can harm nerve cells, potentially resulting in memory loss and paving the way to Alzheimer’s.

When studying the brains of those who had Alzheimer’s,
almost all had high levels of these enzymes and over time, these levels increased.

So along with your puzzles, music and dance, start flossing every day for your mind & body health.

We recommend flossing at night, before you brush your teeth.
