Wisdom teeth have a habit of announcing themselves at the worst possible time.

Most people get theirs somewhere in their late teens or twenties, and by then the jaw is usually full. When there's no room left, they can come through at an angle, get stuck under the gum, or push against the tooth next door.

Things worth paying attention to: pain or swelling at the back of the jaw, gums that feel tender when you brush, or a tooth that's only partly through.

The part people don't always hear is that wisdom teeth don't automatically need to come out. Plenty come through cleanly and cause no trouble at all. An x-ray is what tells us which camp yours fall into, so you're not guessing (or booking a removal you never needed).

This patient received resin composite build-ups, also known as edge bonding, across the upper front teeth, along with an implant crown on the upper right canine.

The treatment consisted of 6 appointments spaced 2–4 weeks apart. The after photo was taken immediately following insertion of the implant crown, and approximately 1 year after the edge bonding was completed.

A missing tooth can feel like a cosmetic issue at first, especially if it's towards the back where nobody sees it. What's happening underneath is the part worth knowing about.

Once a tooth is gone, the bone that used to support it starts to shrink away, and the teeth either side slowly lean into the space left behind. Over time that shifts your bite, changes how you chew and can make the gap harder to treat than it would have been early on.

A dental implant replaces the whole tooth, root included, so the bone keeps its job and everything around it stays where it should be (your teeth are surprisingly opinionated about their neighbours).

This patient received a full mouth rehabilitation. Treatment began with a periodontal clean, followed by resin composite restorations across the upper and lower arch. Ceramic crowns were then placed across the upper teeth and on one upper and one lower molar, along with a cantilever bridge on the upper right.

The treatment consisted of 10 appointments spaced 2–4 weeks apart, with the after photo taken approximately 6 weeks following insertion of the upper crowns.
