Many parents assume that baby teeth are not very important because they eventually fall out. In reality, primary teeth play a critical role in a child’s growth and development.

Baby teeth help children:
• Chew comfortably and maintain proper nutrition
• Develop clear speech and pronunciation
• Build confidence through smiling and social interaction
• Hold space for permanent teeth to erupt correctly

If baby teeth are lost too early due to decay or trauma, neighbouring teeth can shift into the empty space, increasing the risk of crowding, misalignment, and orthodontic problems later in life.

Untreated decay in baby teeth can also lead to pain, infection, difficulty eating, and even damage to the developing adult teeth underneath.

Early dental visits and healthy oral habits are essential in helping children build a strong foundation for lifelong oral health.

If you have questions about your child’s dental development, our team is here to help.

Dental emergencies can happen unexpectedly, and staying calm is the first step.

Here are a few important things to remember:

⚠️ If you have a toothache, rinse your mouth with warm salt water and contact your dentist.

⚠️ If a tooth breaks, try to save any broken pieces and bring them to your appointment.

⚠️ If a tooth is knocked out, place it in milk or saliva and seek dental care as soon as possible.

⚠️ If there is bleeding from a dental injury, apply gentle pressure with clean gauze.

Quick action can make a real difference, especially when it comes to saving a tooth or preventing further complications.

If you are unsure what to do, call your dentist for advice.

Wisdom teeth typically begin to emerge between the ages of 17 and 25, although early signs can appear before they fully come through.

These symptoms are often caused by pressure, lack of space, or partial eruption, which can lead to discomfort and inflammation.

Common signs to watch for include:
• Pain at the back of the mouth
• Swollen or tender gums
• Jaw stiffness or discomfort
• Bad taste or persistent bad breath
• Difficulty opening the mouth

In some cases, more serious symptoms such as facial swelling or signs of infection may develop.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is important to have your wisdom teeth assessed. Early evaluation can help prevent complications such as infection or impaction.

If you have any concerns, we encourage you to book an oral health check with our team.

Do you know how to properly clean your mouthguard or splint?

Proper cleaning is essential to prevent bacteria build-up, unpleasant odour and potential damage to the appliance.

After each use, rinse it with cool water and gently clean it with a soft toothbrush. It is recommended to use a mild soap or a cleaning product specifically designed for dental appliances.

Regular toothpaste should be avoided, as it can be too abrasive and may damage the surface over time.

It is also important to allow the appliance to dry completely before storing it. Keeping it in a closed container while still wet can encourage bacterial growth.

Additionally, avoid hot water, as it may distort the shape of the appliance.

Following these simple steps will help extend the lifespan of your mouthguard and support your overall oral health.

Thinking about veneers? ✨

Veneers are a popular option to improve the shape, size and symmetry of your teeth, creating a natural and balanced smile.

They can be a great solution for:
Worn or chipped teeth
Discolouration that does not respond to whitening
Small gaps or irregular shapes

However, veneers are not suitable for every case.

They may not be recommended if there is:
⚠️ Active gum disease or untreated decay
⚠️ Severe misalignment or bite problems
⚠️ Insufficient enamel or poor oral health

In these situations, other treatments may be required first to ensure a stable and long-lasting result.

The key to a successful outcome is always proper diagnosis and personalised planning.

If you have been considering veneers, a consultation will help determine the best approach for your smile.

Oral cancer can develop without pain in its early stages, which is why awareness and regular checks are so important.

Performing a simple monthly self check can help you identify early signs such as ulcers, lumps or changes in your mouth.

If anything unusual persists for more than 2 to 3 weeks, it should be assessed by a professional.

If you have any concerns, we encourage you to book an oral health check with our team.

Oral cancer is more common than most people think and often develops without pain in its early stages.

The good news is that early detection significantly increases the chances of successful treatment.

We encourage you to perform a simple monthly self check at home. All you need is a mirror, good lighting and clean fingers.

Be aware of warning signs such as:
• Ulcers that do not heal within 2 to 3 weeks
• Red or white patches in the mouth
• Lumps in the mouth, neck or jaw
• Difficulty swallowing or persistent sore throat

Risk factors include smoking, alcohol consumption and HPV.

If you notice anything unusual, book an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible.

Your health starts with awareness.

Have concerns? Book your oral health check today.
