A big part of Orthodontics is making sure the ADULT TEETH have room to grow and develop. The best time to assess this is between ages 7-8, when the jaws are still developing and if there are any problems (like narrow jaws/ no room for growth), treatment can be done then.

It is important to know that by age 9 - 10, the window for some treatment closes and they would have to wait until they reach adulthood and have more drastic and invasive procedures.

Orthodontic treatment during the developmental age of 7-9 is generally easily tolerated, non-invasive and a breeze for your child.

SEMINAR DAY at Perfect Smiles Orthodontics - we invited dental professionals from around the area for a seminar about the importance of early intervention for some common orthodontic issues in children. We learnt that for some issues, if treated early, will save time and money as well as prevent more complex problems from developing.

When our patients spend two or so years with us, some eventually become our friends........it was lovely to see our friend, Jill Naylor, who came in for her retainer check yesterday with our Hygenist, Afrodity. The teeth still look amazing, Jill!

SEVEN - THE MAGIC number...... Most parents wonder when is the best time to take their child for an orthodontic assessment. The magic number is 7.

At age seven, your child's physical growth is steadying. They have a mix of permanent and baby teeth. Both the American and Australian Association for Orthodontists recommend that age seven is a good time to have their first orthodontic assessment.

The orthodontist can make an assessment about your child's teeth, jaw and bite development so that there are no surprises in the future.
