We are delighted that our young patient gave us a list of some questions he had about his partial braces. We thought these were such excellent questions that the answers may also help others wondering the same. His lovely mother gave us permission to publish his letter. Here are the answers:
(1) Use Pikster brush head bent on a 90 degree angle and gently sweep under the coil between the side of the gum. These “coil springs” are used to push teeth to make more space in the developing dental arch.
(2) Options if break (a) leave and call our clinic for advice (b) place dental wax over for temporary comfort until your appointment (c) ask parent assistance to “re-coil” or “cut” with jewelry wire cutters if immediately requires management like we showed you at braces placement appointment then see us ASAP.
(3) At school any issues tell your teacher or school nurse and they will call us.
(4) Partial braces are on for approximately 6-12 months.
(5) Brush the braces, wires, springs and teeth with a manual orthodontic tooth brush. If using an electric toothbrush just be extra careful around the coils. Please see pamphlets we provided to you at braces on appointment.
Hope these answers are helpful
