Same-day crowns. Single visit. No temporary crown.

We often hear patients ask:

“Why does a crown usually take two visits so far apart— is there a faster way?”

Yes — and at Norlane Dental, we’ve been offering same-day crown technology for many years.

What is a dental crown? 👑

When a tooth becomes significantly damaged, heavily filled, cracked, or has had root canal treatment, a crown is designed to fit over and protect the remaining tooth structure while restoring strength, function, and appearance.

The natural root remains in place — the crown sits over the prepared tooth like a protective outer layer.

Crowns are one of the most established and reliable treatments in modern dentistry.

⏱️ The traditional approach

Traditionally, crowns are completed over two visits.

At the first appointment:

• the tooth is prepared
• an impression is taken
• a temporary crown is fitted

The final crown is then made externally by a dental laboratory.

At the second appointment — usually 3 to 4 weeks later — the temporary crown is removed and the final crown is fitted.

Using CEREC digital technology, we can digitally scan, design, and mill crowns directly within our practice — often within a single appointment.

For most suitable crown cases, this means:

✔️ One visit
✔️ No temporary crown
✔️ No second appointment
✔️ No second injection/anaesthetic

Your crown is digitally designed and precision-milled while you wait.

✨ Is same-day suitable for every crown/every patient?

Same-day crowns are suitable for the majority of crown cases.
However, in some situations involving more complex aesthetics, bite considerations, or specific materials, the traditional two-visit approach may still be recommended.

That decision is made after a proper clinical assessment.
