Why do we take bitewing x-rays?

Bitewing radiographs are essential for detecting interproximal caries, early-stage decay, assessing bone levels and the position of unerupted or impacted wisdom teeth.

They provide critical diagnostic information not visible during a regular visual exam, helping us catch issues before they become major problems.

This young man had a large portion of his jaw bone removed due to an aggressive tumour. His shin bone was used to reconstruct the missing bone.

We were able to work with the Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons at John Hunter Hospital to restore the missing teeth onto implants placed into his relocated shin bone.

What a great outcome, and a very rewarding case to be involved in.
