Ignoring a missing tooth can trigger a domino effect that compromises your entire oral health.

When a tooth is lost, neighbouring teeth can migrate into the space, altering bite alignment and creating uneven chewing forces.
The opposing tooth may overgrow, and over time, the jawbone in that area can gradually lose density due to lack of stimulation.

These changes are structural, not just cosmetic, and may increase the risk of discomfort and further dental instability if left unaddressed.

Early replacement options such as implants or bridges can help preserve bone support and maintain long-term oral function.

This patient had to lose a few front teeth due to failed root canals, infection, gum and bone loss.

We ended up rebuilding the bone and soft tissues with grafting then placing a bridge with teeth of the correct proportions and dimensions.

What do you think of this transformation?

A lot of people blame sugar for cavities. Sugar plays a role, but the real risk comes down to what's happening in your mouth right before sleep.

During the day, your saliva helps neutralise acids and repair enamel. At night, saliva flow drops right down. So if there's acid sitting on your teeth when you fall asleep, the damage goes uninterrupted for hours.

That's why the last 30 minutes before bed matter more than people realise.

A few things that help: don't eat or drink anything (even sugar-free) after brushing. Give your mouth time to settle before you sleep.
And brushing at night is non-negotiable. If you only brush once a day, make it before bed.

Mouth breathing overnight is another factor a lot of people miss. If you wake up with dry lips, morning breath that won't quit, or a sore throat, there's a good chance you're breathing through your mouth while you sleep.

That dries everything out and takes away the protection saliva normally provides.

If you think you might be a mouth breather, it's worth chatting to your dentist or GP. There could be something going on with your airway that's worth looking into.

How long do veneers actually last? The short answer: porcelain veneers sit around a 95% success rate at 10 to 15 years.

Composite veneers tend to need a refresh sooner, around the 5 to 7 year mark.
But that number depends a lot on you. Grinding at night is the biggest one, if you're clenching in your sleep, your porcelain is under pressure for hours without a break.
A custom night guard is a small investment that makes a real difference.

The other thing people forget is that veneers don't protect you from gum disease or decay.
The margins where porcelain meets your natural tooth still need looking after. Good hygiene matters just as much after veneers as before.

Want to know what's realistic for your teeth? Come in for a free consultation and we'll talk it through.

Transformation of a smile that has been worn down through bruxism as well as acid erosion from too many cokes.

The acidity of Coca Cola dissolves tooth structure making teeth short and the surfaces decay and break down.

When we rebuild smiles like that it is very important to take care of the causative factors otherwise the results will be temporary if the diet or habits do not change.

Proper wearing of a night grinding splint as well as cessation of fizzy drinks is mandatory for this case to remain successful.

"I want white but natural." We hear this almost every consultation.
The tricky part? There's no single "white" in porcelain. BL1, BL3, A1 they all look different depending on your skin tone, your lips, even how much of your smile shows when you laugh.

Most people don't realise that shade selection isn't just picking a colour from a chart.
Your skin tone affects how bright a shade reads on your face. Fuller lips can cast a shadow that softens the porcelain.

And if your natural teeth are darker underneath, there's a limit to how far we can shift things without making veneers thick and bulky.

We always plan for the full smile, not just the front six teeth. Because when you laugh wide, everything shows.

Your teeth get checked. Your gums get checked. But when was the last time you actually looked at your tongue?

Not all lumps are cancerous. Some are mucoceles, which are blocked saliva glands. Some are fibromas, which are harmless growths from irritation.
Some are cysts that come and go.

But you can't tell the difference by looking at it yourself. A biopsy is the only way to know for sure.

What you can do now? Flip your tongue up. Look at the sides. Run your finger along the edges. That's exactly where oral cancer likes to hide.
Not on the top where you can see it easily, but underneath and along the borders where you'd never think to look.

The rule is simple. If it's been there longer than 2 weeks and it's not going away, get it checked. Don't wait for pain. These things don't always hurt. That's part of what makes them easy to miss.
This is why I check your tongue, cheeks, floor of your mouth, and palate at every single visit. Not just your teeth. A full oral health check means looking at everything inside your mouth, not only what bites and chews.

Early detection changes everything. A tumour found early has a far better outcome than one found late.

Save this and share it with someone you care about.

Our Smile Design process starts with a consultation to understand your goals and assess your bite and tooth health. Your smile is then digitally designed, and you’re shown a mock-up before any treatment begins.

You’ll trial your new smile with temporaries before the final porcelain veneers are made, so there are no surprises.

Every smile is different. Treatment is always tailored to the individual.

Learn what may be possible for your smile.

One might thinks it’s a healthy snack as it’s a dried fruit.
But it’s one of the greatest triggers in a spike in blood sugars and thus insulin levels. It's raisins.

Plus, for your teeth, they're one of the worst offenders hiding in plain sight.

When you eat a raisin, the sugar is concentrated (about 60% sugar by weight) and the texture is sticky enough to press into the grooves and pits of your teeth and stay there. That's the problem. The longer sugar sits on enamel, the longer bacteria feed on it and produce acid.
A fresh grape? You chew it, the water content helps rinse it through, and it's gone. A raisin stays put. It packs into the fissures of your back teeth and sits there for hours if you don't brush.

Same goes for other dried fruits like dates, apricots, and cranberries. If it sticks to your fingers, it's sticking to your teeth.
You don't need to avoid them completely. But if you or your kids snack on dried fruit regularly, a few things help:

Drink water straight after. Have them with a meal rather than on their own. And don't let them be the last thing eaten before bed.
Or just swap them for fresh fruit when you can. More water, less sticking, less risk.

Small change. Big difference over time.
