Could your jaw be trying to tell you something? ☕️

When we think about jaw problems, most of us think about jaw pain.
But sometimes the signs aren’t quite so obvious.
Some people with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) may experience:
✔️Difficulty opening their mouth
✔️Pain or discomfort when chewing
✔️A feeling of fullness or discomfort around the ear
These symptoms can also occur with a range of other conditions, so it’s important not to assume the jaw is the cause.

If you’ve noticed persistent symptoms or they’re affecting your daily life, an assessment by a dentist or another appropriately qualified healthcare professional can help identify the underlying cause and discuss appropriate management options.

One of the things I love about dentistry is that our bodies often give us little clues, we just need to know when they’re worth paying attention to.

☕️ Anyway... that’s something I’ve been wondering about over my coffee this week.

Today, Karen and I had the privilege of presenting to the incredible team at MND SA about something very close to my heart — the importance of oral care and prevention for people living with MND.

It was wonderful to see how engaged the team was, and to have such open and meaningful conversations. But it was also difficult to hear just how much of a gap still exists between MND care and oral health.

It reminded me why this work matters so much.

My hope is to keep learning, sharing, and creating awareness around the role oral health can play in supporting people living with MND — and to help make sure oral care becomes part of the conversation, not an afterthought.

And to my baby brother… I hope I’m making you proud. 🤍

You and I used to talk about leaving a legacy. We talked about making our time here mean something.

This one is for you, Alex.

I’ll keep doing what I can to turn something so deeply painful into something that can help others.

I hope you’re proud. 🤍

Does a clicking jaw always mean there’s something wrong?

Not necessarily.

Jaw clicking is relatively common, and many people experience it without pain or changes in jaw function. On its own, a click isn’t always a cause for concern.

However, if your jaw clicking is associated with pain, locking, difficulty opening or closing your mouth, or it’s affecting your daily activities, it’s worth having it assessed by a dentist or another appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

📌 Every situation is different, so an individual assessment is the best way to understand what’s causing your symptoms.

Many people clench their teeth during the day or while they sleep without even realising they're doing it. Over time, it may contribute to tooth wear, jaw discomfort, headaches, or muscle tension.

If you've ever caught yourself with your teeth tightly together while concentrating or feeling stressed... you're not alone.

Have you ever noticed yourself clenching?

They said women belong in the kitchen…

So… I cooked. 👩‍⚕️🔥🦷

Just not the kind they were expecting.

Today’s menu:
🦷 A few check-ups
✨ Some problem-solving
☕ More coffee than I’d like to admit
😁 Plenty of teamwork
💙 A whole lot of care

I wouldn’t trade this “recipe” for anything.

Tag a woman who’s out there doing what she loves. 💪✨
