😬Did you know that 1 in 3 people suffer from sensitive teeth, and it's a problem that gets worse as we get older?

So, if you wince when you sink your teeth into an ice cream or drink a hot coffee - you're not alone.

But that doesn’t mean you need to suffer in pain or avoid your favourite foods.

Sensitivity occurs when the dentin layer of your teeth becomes exposed. This could be due to the erosion of your tooth enamel from consuming too many acidic drinks or foods, tooth decay, teeth grinding or even from gum recession.

There are a few things you can do to manage sensitivity:
✅ Use toothpaste specifically designed for sensitive teeth
✅ Brush more gently along your gumline
✅ Reduce the amount of acidic and sugary foods you eat

However, this won’t solve the issue of tooth sensitivity completely.

It’s important to get a thorough dental examination to identify the underlying cause for the sensitivity and discuss options that will get rid of the problem for good!

To book a check-up with one of our dentists, give our friendly team at our Mornington Clinic a call at 03 5975 5355 or our My Eliza Clinic at 03 9787 4889. Or book online via our website at www.peninsulasmiles.com.au.

Did you know there are plenty of foods that help keep your teeth and gums in tip-top shape? Here are some of our favourites:

𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗳𝘆 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝘀 – spinach, silverbeet, kale, rocket & parsley are packed with vitamins & minerals that not only are great for your overall health but also help with maintaining gum health.
𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗮 – Green tea contains special compounds called catechins, which reduce the bacteria in your mouth that otherwise turn into plaque.
𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘀𝗲 – Eating cheese helps to neutralise the acids from bacteria in your mouth & saliva. Its high levels of calcium and phosphate also work to rebuild and strengthen the enamel layer of your teeth.
𝗖𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘀 & 𝘃𝗲𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 – Apples, carrots & celery are essentially nature's toothbrushes & can help remove some of the harmful plaque off your teeth. They also help stimulate saliva production, which helps to reduce the risk of gum disease and cavities.
𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 – Drinking plenty of water is really important to maintain good oral health as it helps to rinse away food particles and neutralise acid in the mouth.

While these foods are great for helping keep your teeth healthy, they’re no replacement for regular brushing, flossing and regular check-ups with your dentist. But together, they can have a big impact on your oral health!

If it’s been a while since you’ve visited the dentist, we'd love to see you! Call us on 03 9568 8911 or book online at https://stationsquaredental.com.au.

If you haven’t been to the dentist yet this year, now’s the time to book your check-up.

🦷 We can identify – and treat - dental issues before they become a big (and costly) problem causing pain
🦷 Check-ups can also detect other health issues, including teeth grinding, gum disease and oral cancer
🦷 A professional teeth clean at the dentist removes the build-up of plaque that’s not possible to remove by only cleaning your teeth at home
🦷 Your teeth will not only be healthier but may also look whiter and brighter
🦷 We can also give you some tips about how to best look after your teeth at home

Don't wait until you know there's a problem to see us. The earlier we find it, the easier the fix!

Schedule your check-up today with one of our gentle and caring dentists. Call us at our Mornington Clinic on 03 5975 5355 or our Mt Eliza Clinic 03 9787 4889 or book via our website at https://peninsulasmiles.com.au.

A great time for a first visit is at pre-school age – although of course, you're welcome to bring them in earlier if you have any questions or concerns, or just to watch their older sibling.

When it comes to kids visiting the dentist, our advice is the earlier the better. It’s really important that children get used to coming in to see the dentist while they are young to help them form good lifelong associations.

At that first appointment, we take our time to put your child at ease, while we check to see how their teeth are growing, looking out for any potential issues.

We also take the time to talk to parents about strategies to maintain your child’s oral hygiene, and our recommended schedule for dental visits. We can also answer any questions you may have about baby teeth, dental hygiene or other teeth-related matters.

We love seeing kids in our dental practice and do absolutely everything we can to make them feel at ease on their first and every visit to see us.

And if your family is eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, then your child’s visit may be completely free*! If you’re not sure if your child is eligible, head over to the Services Australia website for all the details of this program: https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/who-can-get-child-dental-benefits-schedule.

To make an appointment for your child – or the whole family! – call us at Mornington on 03 5975 5355 or Mt Eliza on 03 9787 4889.
