Can you put your socks on standing up? 🧦

I’m starting a little “Stay Strong as We Age” challenge here at DenturePoint.

Over the next 3 weeks, I’ll share 3 simple everyday activities that can help us maintain strength, balance and independence as we get older.

Activity #1: Put your socks on while standing.

It sounds simple… but it challenges your balance, coordination and core stability — all things we want to keep working on as we age.

👉 Try it safely next time you get dressed. Can you put your sock on without holding onto anything?

Be honest… could you do it? 😄

I’ll reveal Activity #2 next week.
And I promise, it’s another one you can easily incorporate into your everyday life.

🧠🦷 Fascinating (and slightly alarming) research from South Korea: scientists have found strong evidence that oral bacteria can move into the gut and even affect the brain, potentially playing a role in Parkinson’s disease.

The study showed higher levels of Streptococcus mutans (a common oral bacterium) in people with Parkinson’s. Substances produced by these bacteria were found to travel through the bloodstream to the brain, where they may contribute to inflammation and the loss of dopamine-producing neurons.

In mouse studies, blocking this pathway significantly reduced brain inflammation and motor symptoms.

The takeaway? Oral health may be far more connected to brain health than we realised — and targeting the oral-gut microbiome could open new paths for treating Parkinson’s. 🦠➡️🧠
