Avoiding ice-cold drinks? Waiting for your coffee to cool? Chewing on the other side of your mouth?

It’s easy to adapt to tooth sensitivity until those small changes become part of your everyday routine. But sensitivity can have several causes, including enamel wear, exposed tooth surfaces, decay or other underlying dental concerns.

Rather than simply avoiding the trigger, it’s important to understand why the sensitivity is occurring. Pay attention to whether it’s triggered by hot, cold, or sweet foods or biting, and whether the sensation disappears quickly or lingers. These details can help during your dental assessment.

If sensitivity is new, persistent or getting worse, don’t simply learn to live with it. Book an assessment with Mitcham Dental Clinic today: https://www.mitchamdental.com.au/

Dental crowns are often associated with visibly broken teeth, but there are other situations where a tooth may need additional protection.

A tooth weakened by a large restoration, significant wear or structural damage may no longer have enough strength to reliably manage everyday biting forces.

A crown covers the affected tooth, helping restore its shape and function while protecting the remaining structure.

That doesn't mean every damaged tooth needs one. Smaller areas may be suitable for a different restorative approach, which is why assessing how much healthy tooth remains is important.

At Mitcham Dental Clinic, dental crowns form part of a broader range of restorative treatments.

The aim isn't simply to repair what you can see. It's to consider how that tooth needs to function over the longer term.

Noticed bleeding when you floss? Stopping altogether may not be the answer.

Bleeding gums can be a sign of inflammation caused by plaque accumulating around the gumline. Regular, gentle interdental cleaning helps remove plaque from areas your toothbrush can’t effectively reach — but technique matters. Floss should be guided carefully between the teeth rather than snapped against the gums.

If bleeding continues, brushing or flossing harder isn’t the solution. A professional assessment can help identify the cause and ensure your home-care routine is working effectively.

At Mitcham Dental Clinic, we provide dental hygiene care, periodontal treatment and personalised oral hygiene guidance.

Don’t ignore persistent bleeding gums. Book an assessment with our team today: https://www.mitchamdental.com.au/

Pain isn't always the first sign of a dental problem.

Early decay, small cracks and gum problems can develop with few noticeable symptoms. You may instead notice sensitivity, food repeatedly catching between particular teeth, bleeding when brushing, a rough edge or a subtle change in colour.

Waiting for significant pain before arranging an examination can mean waiting until the problem has progressed.

A useful rule? Pay attention to what is different for you. A new sensation or change that persists deserves investigation, even if it isn't particularly uncomfortable.

Regular examinations also give your dentist an opportunity to identify changes you may not be able to see yourself.

Noticed something different? Have it assessed rather than waiting for it to become painful.

Looking for a fixed solution to fill a gap in your smile? A dental bridge is designed to replace one or more missing teeth by creating a natural-looking restoration supported by the surrounding teeth.

Beyond completing your smile, a well-designed bridge can restore everyday function and help maintain the position of neighbouring teeth. At Mitcham Dental Clinic, we carefully assess your oral health and existing teeth to determine whether a dental bridge is the right choice for you.

With dental implants, dentures and other restorative options also available, our team can help you understand which approach best suits your individual needs.
