Did you know that when it comes to oral health, getting an X-ray done can mean the difference between having terrible tooth pain or issues, and having the knowledge of what's needed to keep your teeth healthy and clear of those hidden issues?

Emerging teeth, misdirected teeth, and plenty of other problems are only detectible via X-ray.

Take this X-ray from one of out patients, if we didn't perform the X-ray and gain insight to our patients tooth activity, we wouldn't have know how badly they needed that dangerous back tooth removed.

Have you had an X-ray done recently? What do you think of them?

Some pregnant women can develop swollen and sore gums, which may bleed 🫒

Bleeding gums are caused by a build-up of plaque on the teeth and the hormonal changes during pregnancy (yep pregnancy hormones strike again πŸ˜…) can make your gums more vulnerable to plaque which leads to inflammation and bleeding.

Also known as pregnancy gingivitis or gum disease, this effect can be combatted by using a soft bristle brush, but if you're concerned you can book a check up with us to find out more 🦷✨

Don't forget! Every 3-4 months. πŸͺ₯
This is because over time, the bristles on your toothbrush get worn down which stops them from being able to clean your teeth as well as they should, which in turn, leaves you at risk of plaque build-up, tooth decay and gum disease.

As you may have noticed, va**ng has become a popular alternative to smoking ci******es. πŸ’¨
And even though it may be less damaging to your overall health when compared to to***co, va**ng π’”π’•π’Šπ’π’ 𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒔 long-term damage to your teeth, mouth and gums.

Why?
Well, basically it comes down to the fact that va**ng leaves residue of the v**e liquids on your mouth, which opens you up to a variety of problems including:

🦷 Tooth decay and cavities
🦷 Inflamed gums
🦷 Dry mouth
&
🦷 Tooth discolouration

So, to avoid these nasty effects, we recommend avoiding va**ng altogether, or at the very least, drink water afterwards and be diligent with oral hygiene habits and regular dental checkups.

Here at Mile End Dental, we're ready to answer any questions you have about oral health, so contact us today to set up an appointment!

Charcoal is one of the biggest trends in the world of wellness and cosmetics. But is it really effective in keeping your teeth clean?

A 2017 review warns that patients must be cautious when using charcoal-based toothpaste due to unproven claims and safety concerns. Some of the cons include:

β€’ Charcoal toothpaste is too abrasive for everyday use.
β€’ Most charcoal toothpastes do not contain fluoride, which is crucial for enamel protection.
β€’ Charcoal’s effect on dental restorations is not known.
β€’ It is *not* recommended for receding gums.

While it *may* help remove surface stains, the long-term use of this product is still unknown due to limited studies. If you'd like to know dentist-approved ways of teeth whitening, contact us today! 😊

We get a lot of people and patients who ask us this - "will whitening my teeth damage them?" πŸ€”

🦷 Teeth whitening is safe, as long as you stick to dentist-approved methods. You have to ensure that the method fits your needs.

🦷 Professional, in-office whitening treatments are more beneficial because it works more quickly. They are recommended if you have receding gums or abfraction lesions.
