All-On-4 Plus® treatment, completed by Dr Warren.

Where teeth across an arch are heavily worn, broken down or failing, replacing the full arch may be considered rather than treating each tooth in turn. All-On-4 Plus® uses four or more implants to support a fixed bridge, with the implants angled to make use of the bone that is available.

Suitability depends on bone volume, gum health, your general medical history and what the clinical assessment and 3D imaging show. Where bone volume is insufficient, grafting may be required, which lengthens the treatment sequence.

Treatment of this kind is staged over a period of time rather than completed in a single visit. Treatment plans, healing intervals and results vary from person to person.

Dr Phuong walks through what Invisalign treatment actually involves.

Clear aligners shift teeth gradually, addressing crowding, crookedness and gaps. Treatment commonly runs between six months and a year and a half, depending on the complexity of the case.

The sequence matters. General dental health comes first, so examinations, cleans and any fillings are dealt with before aligners are ordered. Then diagnostic records: photographs, a 3D scan and X-rays, which produce a digital treatment plan you review before anything is manufactured.

Once the aligners arrive, wear time does the work. Around 22 hours a day, removed only for eating, brushing, and drinking anything other than water.

Whether aligners suit your case comes from the clinical assessment rather than the scan alone.

Upper and lower All-On-4 Plus® treatment, completed by Dr Fong.

Where teeth across both arches are failing, worn or already missing, replacing the full arch may be considered rather than treating each tooth individually. Treating both arches together means the bite can be planned as a whole, since the upper and lower teeth need to function against one another.

All-On-4 Plus® uses four or more implants per arch to support a fixed bridge. The implants are angled to make use of the available bone, which is central to how the technique works.

This is what an ordinary appointment looks like from the doorway. One person in the chair, one working, one sorting out notes, and a show playing overhead that nobody is fully watching but everybody is grateful for.

The ceiling screens were not a gimmick. Having somewhere to look that is not the light or the ceiling tiles genuinely helps, particularly for anyone who finds appointments difficult. Plenty of patients pick something before we start.

Nothing dramatic happening here. Which, when it comes to dental appointments, is very much the goal.

Invisalign Day is on Saturday 10 October at our Melton, Taylors Lakes and Bacchus Marsh practices. Here is what the appointment actually involves.

It starts with a 3D scan. An intraoral scanner takes a digital model of your teeth in a few minutes, with no putty impressions. From that scan, software generates a simulation showing the projected movement of your teeth over the course of treatment. It is a projection based on the scan rather than a guaranteed outcome, but it gives you something concrete to look at rather than a verbal description.

From there you have a full examination. Your teeth, bite, gums and jaw are assessed, because aligners are not suitable for every case and that determination comes from the clinical picture rather than from the scan alone.

You then discuss a treatment plan based on what the assessment shows, including whether clear aligners are appropriate, what the alternatives might be, and what is involved in each. Treatment length and suitability vary from person to person.

The purpose of the day is to give you enough information to make a decision. Nothing needs deciding on the spot.

Cost is one of the most common reasons treatment gets put off. It is worth raising early rather than deciding on your own that something is out of reach.

There are usually more options than people expect. Payment plans allow treatment to be spread over time rather than paid in full up front. Private health fund rebates may cover part of the cost depending on your fund and level of cover. And for some patients, early release of superannuation on compassionate grounds may be available for certain dental treatment.

That last one has conditions attached and is assessed by the ATO, not by us. What applies depends on your circumstances and the treatment involved.

The practical step is to have the conversation. Our team can walk you through what is available, provide a written treatment plan with costs set out, and give you time to consider it. Nothing needs deciding in the room.

Bridge and implant treatment, completed by Dr Peter Duong.

Where several teeth are missing or too compromised to be saved, the options usually come down to implants, a bridge, or a combination of both. A bridge spans a gap using the adjacent teeth for support. An implant replaces the tooth root itself with a fixture placed into the jawbone, which then carries a crown once healing is complete.

Combining them is common in larger cases, since each approach suits different parts of the mouth depending on what remains and what the bone can support.

Suitability depends on bone volume, gum health, the condition of the neighbouring teeth, your bite and your general medical history. Where existing teeth need removing first, or where bone grafting is required, the sequence lengthens accordingly.
