🦷 What is Phase 1 orthodontic treatment?

Phase 1 treatment is early orthodontic treatment designed to guide a child’s developing jaw and teeth while they are still growing.

One common example is a palate expander, which gently widens a narrow upper jaw to help create space and improve the way the upper and lower teeth fit together.

Phase 1 may be recommended for children with things like crowding, crossbites or a narrow upper jaw.

The goal isn’t simply to straighten teeth - it’s about creating a healthy foundation for your child’s developing smile.

Every child is different, so early assessment helps us determine whether treatment or simply monitoring is appropriate.

🦷 What is a CBCT scan?

You may have spotted our CBCT machine in the clinic and wondered what it does!

CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) creates detailed 3D images of your teeth, jawbone, nerves and surrounding structures, helping us see much more than a standard 2D dental X ray. ✨

It can be particularly helpful for:

🦷 Implant planning
🦷 Wisdom teeth and complex root canal assessment
🦴 Evaluating bone and jaw structures
📍 Locating nerves and important anatomy

At LTDE, we use a Green X CBCT machine, designed with low dose imaging technology to help minimise radiation exposure while still providing the detailed images we need.

Having CBCT available in house helps us diagnose and plan treatment with greater confidence, because sometimes, seeing the full picture makes all the difference. 🤍
