This case reflects something I’ve come to accept about myself as a clinician — my inability to “let go” sometimes leads to longer treatment journeys. But I simply can’t stop until things are truly right.
Most orthodontic cases follow a relatively straightforward path — in and out, efficient, predictable. But then there are those patients with unfavourable growth patterns and strong genetic predispositions, where nothing is linear and nothing comes easy.
These are the cases that require guidance over time — often from early mixed dentition all the way through to the completion of patient growth. Because if we choose to “do nothing,” these problems don’t stay still — they evolve, often into something that eventually requires surgical correction.
Long treatments can be exhausting. They test patience, resilience, and expectations — for both the patient and the clinician. But in the right cases, persistence is not over-treatment — it’s prevention, timing, and commitment to a better long-term outcome.
And sometimes, that’s exactly what it takes.
