Wow the year is speeding up!

Maybe you're stressed about getting the X-mas shopping done in time, squeezing all of your appointments in, finishing up your work before the holidays, tidying the house for the relatives to arrive.

Whatever it is, you always get there.

Take a deep breathe. Scrap all the things off of your to-do list that are not 100% necessary, and feel some stress melt away.

Have an amazing week. Only 19 days until Christmas 🎄

We are looking forward to our staff Chrissy party on Friday! 💃🕺

✨ We get a lot of stories in the dental chair from Mums about losing a tooth for each child during pregnancy 😱 or for some, a lot of bleeding and tender gums.

Now let's be clear, this does not have to happen! 😅 Phew.

While hormonal changes during pregnancy mean your gums are more susceptible to inflammation and infection, there's a heap you can do to take extra care of your teeth and gums.

😁 See your Dentist/Hygienist (or both) regularly for cleaning and to monitor your oral health. It's a great idea to have your teeth in great shape before you even think about conceiving and then continue that level of care throughout the pregnancy.

😁 Brush twice a day making sure you massage the gums as well as brushing your teeth. Electric toothbrushes are the best!

😁 Floss those toothy pegs at least once a day and use interdental brushes where the floss doesn't cut the mustard (You can find a thrilling flossing post we did a while back on the feed).

😁 If you are having sugar cravings (let's face it, they are pretty hard to resist), be sure to try to neutralize the sugar after eating with some yoghurt for example. And drink plenty of water to buffer the teeth.
The healthier you are, the healthier your little bundle will be. So take care of you!

Yes! Here's a post about the addictive, delicious but not so nutritious SUGAR. After witnessing the mass consumption on Halloween a little while back I just couldn't hold it in any longer 😜

Everything you eat and drink has an effect on the health of your teeth and gums, not to mention the rest of your body as well.

Tooth decay is a diet-related disease that develops in response to our consumption of sugar.

The sugar we consume is taken up by decay-causing bacteria that live on the surfaces of our teeth. They turn the sugar to acid and excrete it on the surface of our teeth where it draws out minerals from the tooth.

If this process happens over and over, without intervention, it can eventually result in the formation of tooth decay.

But it's not all doom and gloom. Here's some tips to prevent dental decay:

🥕 Drink lots of filtered water throughout the day. Being hydrated means we will have more saliva in our mouths to buffer the sugar away. The water also helps dilute it as well.

🥕 Chew a sugar free gum after meals to stimulate saliva and neutralize the acid.

🥕 Brush after consuming sugary foods - this includes fruit, especially dried fruit that gets stuck in the grooves of our teeth.

🥕 Have sweets less frequently and don't spread them out all day. Have one hit and then do all of the above.

🥕 Avoid sports drinks and soft drinks - water is your friend.
