Tooth discolouration is one of the most common aesthetic concerns raised in general dental consultations, and there are two broad categories worth understanding before considering treatment. Extrinsic staining sits on the outer surface of the enamel and is often linked to coffee, tea, red wine, or to***co use, while intrinsic staining originates within the tooth structure itself and can be more resistant to whitening.

Professional whitening products use hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide at concentrations higher than over-the-counter alternatives, which is why the process is supervised by a registered dentist. ZOOM in-chair whitening is completed in a single appointment of around 60 to 90 minutes, involving a clinical assessment, a baseline shade recording, soft tissue protection, and staged application of the whitening gel.

Take-home kits use custom-fitted trays worn over one to three weeks and are also used to maintain results from earlier in-chair treatment. How long results last depends on diet, oral hygiene, to***co use, and the original nature of the staining, and there is no way to predict in advance exactly how much a tooth's shade will change.

Professional whitening is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for patients under 18, or for those with untreated decay or active gum disease. At Odin House Dental in Innaloo, a clinical assessment is completed before any whitening treatment is recommended.

Denture materials and fitting techniques have changed considerably over the years. Modern full and partial dentures are custom-made from impressions of your mouth, which allows for a closer, more secure fit than older styles. Improvements in materials also mean dentures can look more natural and function more effectively for everyday eating and speaking.

If you're wearing older dentures or considering them for the first time, it's worth discussing your options with the dental team, since fit and suitability vary from person to person.

Ask our team about your denture options at your next visit.

Contact sports carry a real risk of chipped, cracked or knocked-out teeth, and a custom-fitted mouthguard is one of the more effective ways to reduce that risk before an injury happens.

Unlike generic store-bought options, a custom mouthguard is made from an impression of your teeth, which allows for a closer, more secure fit during play.

If you or your kids are heading into a new sporting season, it's worth booking a fitting appointment ahead of time.

Bleeding gums when brushing or flossing are often brushed off as normal, but they can be an early sign of gum disease. Gingivitis, the earliest stage, is caused by plaque build-up along the gum line and is generally identified and managed through regular check-ups and cleaning appointments.

Left unaddressed, it can progress to more advanced gum disease affecting the structures that support the teeth. If your gums bleed regularly, it's worth having them assessed. Odin House Dental serves patients across Scarborough, Stirling and the greater Innaloo area, and gum health is checked as a standard part of every routine appointment.

Receding gums can expose the root surfaces of teeth, which often causes sensitivity, while wear on the front teeth changes their shape and can open up gaps in the smile. When these concerns occur together, treatment planning looks at the whole picture — the gums, the bite and the condition of each tooth. This case involved a patient experiencing sensitivity from receding gums who was also concerned about gaps and the worn appearance of her front teeth.

Following assessment, porcelain crowns were placed on the upper and lower teeth, with bridges used to replace a missing tooth. Restorative treatment of this scope is planned individually at Odin House Dental in Innaloo, with the stages, timeframes and costs discussed before treatment begins.

Outcomes are not guaranteed. All procedures carry risks, including non-surgical procedures like dental veneers. Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risk. A smile makeover isn't a single treatment — it's a plan built around your teeth and goals. Depending on what you're looking to change, it might combine whitening, veneers, crowns or alignment, used individually or together.

At Odin House Dental, we start with a Smile Assessment to talk through your goals and what's realistically suited to your teeth, since not every option is appropriate for every patient. If you've been considering changes to your smile, this consultation is the starting point for understanding what's involved.

A child's first dental visit does more than check their teeth — it sets the tone for how they feel about dental care going forward. The Australian Dental Association recommends children see a dentist by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth appearing, whichever comes first.

These early appointments let the dental team monitor development, offer guidance on brushing and diet, and help children get used to the sounds and setting of a dental practice before any treatment is needed.

Odin House Dental in Innaloo welcomes young patients and their families from Innaloo, Osborne Park with a children's play space designed to help kids feel at ease.

Considering porcelain veneers? Understanding how cosmetic dental treatments work is the first step toward making an informed choice for your oral health.

Porcelain veneers are custom-made, ultra-thin shells (0.3mm to 0.7mm) bonded to the front surface of teeth to address specific aesthetic concerns, such as persistent discolouration, chipped edges, or minor spacing irregularities.

Important factors to consider:
🔹 Clinical Suitability: Veneers are not suitable for everyone. A thorough dental examination is required to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy before considering treatment.
🔹 Irreversibility: Porcelain veneers typically require the permanent removal of a small layer of natural tooth enamel. Once prepared, the tooth will always require a restoration.
🔹 Treatment Options: Both porcelain and composite resin veneers have distinct characteristics regarding longevity, preparation, and maintenance.

At Odin House Dental Surgery in Innaloo, Perth, our dentists provide comprehensive clinical assessments to discuss all options, benefits, and potential risks tailored to your individual dentition.

Severe tooth wear affects more than appearance — when many teeth are worn down, the bite can collapse, making chewing difficult and placing uneven pressure on the remaining tooth structure. Restoring a severely worn dentition typically involves rebuilding the shape and height of the teeth, and porcelain crowns and bridges are among the options used for this. This case involved a patient who was unable to chew properly due to very severe wear across many teeth and was concerned about their worn-down appearance and colour.

Following assessment, his teeth were restored with porcelain crowns and bridges to rebuild the bite and the shape of the teeth. Full mouth restorative treatment is planned individually at Odin House Dental in Innaloo, with the stages, timeframes and costs explained before treatment begins.
