🦷 Dental Tip of the Day

Floss like no one’s watching… because honestly, no one is.
Except us...
We know. 😏

A little daily flossing goes a long way , it keeps your gums healthy and your next dental visit a whole lot smoother. Your toothbrush can only do so much, but floss reaches all the spots it can’t! 🦷😁

Halloween might be over, but the candy stash always seems to last a little longer! 🍬 If you’ve been enjoying a few extra treats, now’s the perfect time to give your teeth some extra care. Remember to brush twice a day, floss daily, and drink plenty of water to rinse away any lingering sugar.
If it’s been around six months since your last visit, this is your sign to book your next check-up & clean! Give us a call on 9477 1803 to make an appointment today!

🦷Did you know some people never get cavities?🦷

Sounds impossible, right? But thanks to genetics, a small number of people are naturally less prone to tooth decay. Their enamel and mouth chemistry make it harder for cavities to form.

But here’s the thing , even if you’re one of the lucky ones, you can still get gum disease, plaque build-up, and other oral health problems.

That’s why…
-Brushing twice a day
Flossing daily
-Seeing your dentist regularly

…are non-negotiables for a healthy smile 😁😀

The First Toothpaste?
Ancient Egypt, ~5000 BCE

Before minty freshness came in a tube, Egyptians were already ahead of the game 🦷

They made toothpaste from:
Crushed eggshells
Ground pumice
Ox hooves

Gritty? Yes.
Effective? Surprisingly yes!
They used this to scrub away plaque and clean their teeth, making it one of the earliest examples of dental care in history.

But let’s be real...
No fluoride.
No mint.
No fresh breath!
Modern toothpaste may be smooth and minty, but it's built on thousands of years of innovation-starting with these ancient trailblazers.

Did You Know? In some cultures, black teeth were considered beautiful! 🖤

Tooth blackening, also known as "Ohaguro" in Japan, was once a popular practice in parts of Asia and the Pacific Islands. It involved staining the teeth black using natural dyes made from things like iron and vinegar.

One of the main reasons for Ohaguro was the belief that pitch-black objects were incredibly beautiful. It was also thought to protect teeth from decay and was often seen as a sign of maturity & beauty.

While it's not something we recommend today 😄, it’s fascinating to see how dental aesthetics have changed across cultures and history.

How Much Sugar Is Hiding in Your Drink? 😳

You might be shocked to learn just how much sugar is sitting in your favourite drinks…

Coke & Mountain Dew:
Up to 10–15 teaspoons of sugar in just one can or bottle (375–600ml)! 😱

Powerade & other sports drinks:
Around 7–13 teaspoons per serve

Iced teas (yes, even the “healthy” ones):
Typically 5–8 teaspoons of sugar in a 500ml bottle. 🍃😬

That’s a LOT of sugar attacking your teeth , every single sip feeds cavity-causing bacteria! 🦷

💡 Dental Tip:
If you can’t skip the sweet drinks, use a straw, rinse with water afterward, and don’t forget to brush (but wait 30 minutes after drinking anything acidic or sugary).

Your smile is worth protecting! 💙

🦷 Fun Fact Friday
Some people grow extra wisdom teeth… and others don’t get any at all! 😲

While most people expect to have four wisdom teeth, some develop more than four! These bonus molars are called supernumerary teeth, and they can appear in unusual spots, sometimes causing crowding or requiring removal.

Surprisingly, about 35% of people are born without any wisdom teeth at all.

Whether you have extra, none, or the usual four, your smile is one of a kind and we’re here to help take care of it! 😁🦷
