Early detection is key with Head and Neck Cancer.
Over 5,000 Australians will be diagnosed with head and neck cancer this year and dental professionals can play a pivotal role in helping keep them alive.
World Head and Neck Cancer Day held on 27 July each year raises awareness of head and neck cancer and helps spread the message that early detection is key in the early diagnosis of oral cancer. Oral health care professionals play a crucial role in the early diagnosis of patients and in providing education and support to people being treated, especially if radiation therapy is required.
More than 17,000 people are living with head and neck cancer in Australia, which includes cancers of the tongue, gums, mouth, salivary glands, tonsils, pharynx, nasal cavity and larynx.
