Big news! Denise is taking her expertise from the dental chair to the convention stage! 🦷🎤✨

This September, our wonderful dental hygienist, Denise Galuoppo, will be presenting at the Australian Dental Association Victorian Branch Inc. Convention.

With almost 40 years of experience under her belt and countless happy, healthy smiles to show for it, Denise will share the techniques she uses to help patients manage dental sensitivity. It’s the same knowledge, care and expertise our patients benefit from every day!

If you’ve met Denise, you’ll know she’s seriously passionate about oral health education. She loves helping patients understand their mouths almost as much as she loves keeping teeth sparkling! 😁

Keep your eyes peeled, too, you may spot some familiar smiles featured as case examples in her presentation, with our patients’ permission, of course!

We’re absolutely bursting with pride. Go, Denise, you’re going to be sensa-tooth-ional! 🎉

🩸 “My gums bleed when I brush, is that normal?”

It’s common, but healthy gums generally shouldn’t bleed during everyday brushing or flossing.

Bleeding may be a sign of inflammation caused by plaque around the gumline. Brushing harder or avoiding the area altogether usually isn’t the answer.

Try:
✓ A soft-bristled toothbrush
✓ Gentle brushing along the gumline
✓ Daily cleaning between your teeth
✓ A dental or hygiene assessment if it continues

Our team can identify what’s causing the bleeding and help you build a routine that suits your mouth.

Can you believe it’s been 10 years since Dr Nathan completed dental school?

It was great catching up with old friends and seeing where the last decade has taken everyone. Hard to believe how quickly those 10 years have gone.

Here’s to the next 10!

Mouthguards aren’t only for game day. Dental injuries can happen during training too, so your mouthguard should be part of your kit every time you play.

A custom-fitted mouthguard helps absorb and spread the force of an impact, reducing the risk of serious injury to your teeth and mouth.

It’s also worth thinking about what you drink. Sports and energy drinks often contain sugar and acids that can contribute to decay and enamel erosion.

Water is the safest option for staying hydrated. If you do have a sports drink, don’t swish it around your mouth, follow it with some water and wait around 30 minutes before brushing.

There’s no shortage of advice online about whitening, straightening teeth and changing your smile. The difficult part is knowing what is safe and what is suitable for you.

Before starting any cosmetic dental treatment, it’s important to check the health of your teeth and gums and understand the available options.

Ask what results you can realistically expect, how much treatment is involved, what it will cost and whether there are any risks or side effects.

A good result starts with a proper assessment and an honest conversation with your dentist.

Wisdom teeth are the last adult teeth to appear, usually between the ages of 18 and 25.

Sometimes there isn’t enough room for them to come through properly, leaving the tooth partly trapped beneath the gum. This is known as an impacted wisdom tooth.

Not every wisdom tooth needs to be removed, but pain, swelling, recurring infections or difficulty cleaning the area are worth getting checked.

If something doesn’t feel right at the back of your mouth, book an appointment with Hampton Smiles. We can take a look and talk you through the options.

Most of the work that keeps your teeth healthy happens at home.

Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, including just before bed, and clean between your teeth daily with floss or an interdental brush.

Try to limit added sugar, make water your usual drink and don’t leave dental visits until something starts hurting.

Nothing complicated - just a few good habits, done consistently.
