Did you know that the first electric toothbrush was invented in 1939 by a Swiss company called E. R. Squibb & Sons? Though it wasn't until the 1960s that electric brushes became more widely popular.

At Gardiner Dental, we're also always interested in using the latest and most effective technology - this includes non-x ray imaging equipment, computer-guided implants and computer aided cosmetic dentistry mock-ups.

To schedule an appointment, you can use our very modern online booking system on our website, or go the old-fashioned route and call 9885 7000.

Have you heard about Invisalign and want to know more?

Invisalign is often used as an alternative to braces, to straighten teeth. It uses a sequence of clear plastic aligners that are far less noticeable than braces, and can provide a more comfortable straightening process.

Invisalign is suitable for many people, but not for everyone, so we do a thorough check before recommending it. We also create a virtual simulation of your teeth, so you can see how your teeth will move into alignment and see what the outcome will be.

If you'd like to know more about this way of achieving straight, even teeth, please get in contact. Book your appointment at https://gardinerdental.com.au/, or call 9885 7000.

Now here's a sobering statistic: In 2022โ€“23, more than 87,000 hospitalisations for dental conditions could have been avoided if patients had been treated earlier.

Even more alarmingly, the highest rate of these hospitalisations was among children aged 5 to 9 years old.

We really encourage our clients to visit us regularly, because it helps so much in spotting problems early and avoiding costly, painful procedures in future.

If you're experiencing a minor tooth issue, let us take a look before it becomes a bigger one! And be sure to book your routine review. We promise to make it as pleasant for you as possible ๐Ÿ˜Š

What sort of brush should you buy? We generally recommend a soft-bristled head, as it is often more comfortable, and less likely to be damaging to your gums. The handle style should be one that gives you a comfortable grip without slipping. It doesn't have to be fancy, just easy for you to use.

As for electric vs manual, there are pros and cons for each. Some research suggests that electric toothbrushes give a more thorough clean - this is certainly going to be the case if the novelty or ease of brushing with an electric toothbrush makes you more inclined to brush thoroughly. Electric toothbrushes can be helpful for children who are reluctant brushers, or for people with arthritis who struggle to grip their brush.

At the end of the day, the right toothbrush is the one that feels most comfortable to you, and therefore gets used regularly.

It's not what you brush with, it's how often and how well you brush that matters!
