WHEN RESTORED TEETH APPEAR MORE NATURAL THAN THE NATURAL TEETH
This lovely patient had a number of discolouring restorations on her front teeth. Overall the entire upper arch is inward tilting / palatally inclined, with the exception of the upper lateral teeth which are outward tilting (proclined).
Invisalign is ideal, but sometimes treatment needs to be separated into bitesize pieces. In this case the patient decided to begin with the restoration of the front teeth as it may be some time before orthodontic correction is feasible.
The patient requested whiter, healthier, straighter teeth. Here is the result and how we did it!
1. Gum sculpting was carried out on the right front central tooth to match the gum level of the other front tooth creating symmetry.
2. An extended course of home whitening was carried out producing dramatic results.
3. The front 4 teeth had old restorations replaced and were crowned based on a carefully instructed and communicated diagnostic wax-up that was tried in the mouth prior to treatment.
4. The upper left canine was veneered with composite, uprighted, and brightened. The upper right canine was shortened with an odontoplasty for symmetry.
5. An occlusal splint was provided for protection at night from bruxism.
To achieve this natural look, there was anatomy and texture built into the crowns which beautifully catch the reflections of the light. The tips have a moderate level of translucency mimicking nature.
Even though this case is mid-treatment, it was nice to have such a BIG improvement through a few simple procedures.
