Severe decay. Broken teeth. Active jaw infections. A severely compromised bite. This is where Phil's treatment journey at DENTL began.

Dr Leighton walks through the first stage of Phil's treatment, which involved removing all remaining teeth under general anaesthesia to allow the infections and surrounding bone to be assessed for healing before implant planning could begin.

Because Phil's existing dental structure was too compromised to serve as a reliable reference point, a 3D-printed provisional stent was used over the existing teeth prior to extraction to help establish bite registration and tooth length. Temporary full upper and lower dentures were then fitted on the same day as the extractions.

These temporary dentures serve as a clinical reference framework for the next stage of treatment planning. Phil will wear them for a minimum of three months while the bone is given time to be assessed for sufficient healing, after which the planned transition to fixed implant-supported bridges will be considered, subject to individual clinical assessment and integration outcomes.

As with all implant treatment, individual timelines, suitability, and outcomes are assessed on a case by case basis throughout the treatment journey.

In this case, the assessment showed over-scrubbing in one area and not enough attention on the front surfaces. Two very different habits, both worth knowing about.

For electric toothbrush users, curving the brush head around each tooth surface can help address areas that are easy to miss. For manual toothbrush users, a small circling motion is generally recommended to help cover all surfaces more thoroughly.

And yes, the purple dye is cleaned off with the Airflow machine before you leave. You will not walk out looking like you lost a grape fight.
