🦷 Did you know your child’s breathing could be shaping their smile and behaviour?
At Coast Family Dental, we look at more than just teeth during our routine examinations. One important area we assess is airway health and how it affects growing children.
When children breathe through their mouths (often due to allergies, enlarged tonsils/adenoids, or other issues), it can have a surprising impact:
Mouth & Facial Development: The tongue sits lower instead of against the roof of the mouth, which can lead to a narrower palate, crowded teeth, changes in jaw growth, and altered facial structure over time.
Behaviour & Development: Poor airway function often affects sleep quality. This can contribute to daytime tiredness, difficulty concentrating, irritability, hyperactivity, and even symptoms that look like ADHD.
Many parents are surprised to learn these connections! Early awareness makes a big difference.
✅ At Coast Family Dental, we carefully screen for airway-related signs during our regular dental visits. If we notice anything of concern, we’ll discuss it openly with you and can refer to the appropriate specialists (such as ENT specialists) for further evaluation.
Healthy breathing supports healthy growth in the mouth and beyond.
