A is 11 years old. She started expansion and Myobrace treatment when she was 7. She finished treatment almost 2 years ago, and we have been in retention phase to wait for all adult teeth to come through. Mum was concerned about her crowding. Mum wanted to avoid extraction and braces for her daughter.

She had both upper and lower expansion plates and went through myofunctional therapy. She is no longer mouth breathing at night. And she also has more room for adult teeth.

The reason we treat is not just because we want to avoid braces. For kids between approximately 6-9 years old, the maxilla suture is not fused. So when you expand upper jaw, it actually open up nasal sinuses. And it’s being documented by many research papers.

If you are interested in such treatment, make an appointment with either Dr Wei or Dr Jessica.

What a year it can make with expansion plate, braces, Myobrace for braces and sorting out airway issue with the ENT

A is 17 years old. Traditionally people don’t believe your jaw still can change shape without surgery at this age. His lower jaw was back was because his upper jaw was narrow. Once we open up the upper jaw, there is room for the lower jaw to come forward. He wears Myobrace over braces 1-2 hours a day and through the night.

The reason we treat is not just because we want straight teeth. We want better function and healthier life.

If you are interested in such treatment, make an appointment with either Dr Wei or Dr Jessica.

We keep blaming children for failing in a system that never checked if they could breathe.

“Lazy.”
“Unmotivated.”
“Not trying hard enough.”

Or maybe… chronically sleep deprived. Mouth breathing. Oxygen starved. Running on fumes while adults sit comfortably judging effort.

We celebrate discipline and ignore physiology. We reward compliance and overlook airway obstruction.

A child who can’t breathe properly doesn’t need a lecture on resilience.
They need a functioning airway.

But that’s inconvenient, isn’t it?

Because fixing breathing takes time, expertise, and accountability.
Blaming the child is quicker.

So we keep labelling kids as problems…
instead of admitting the real problem might be what’s happening every night when they sleep.

Some children don’t reach their full potential.

Not because they won’t.

Because they physically can’t.
