Last weekend I attended an update in paediatric dentistry. I was blown away by how treatment and recommendations have evolved since I graduated.

Today I went out and bought this toothpaste (second photo) for my 2 year old.

Using a grain of any 6+years fluoride toothpaste is now indicated from when your little ones first tooth erupts.

A lot of people don’t realise the impact acidic drinks have on our teeth. Adding lemon or lime to your water can be harmful to the tooth enamel. This is the same for soft drinks, fruit juices, and sparkling water.
To help prevent wearing away your enamel when consuming these drinks, try to limit them or have them with a meal. A few more tips to help protect your teeth include;

• Drinking these fluids through a straw
• Waiting an hour before brushing your teeth
• Having a drink of water immediately afterwards.

When should I bring my child for their first dental visit?

This is a very common question I get asked by parents, as many are confused of the ideal age to bring their little one for their first visit.

The answer? Anywhere over 6 months is a great time.
Here are some reasons:

* Your child’s first tooth may appear around 6 months of age. It is a great time to bring them along so parents can be educated about the best way to clean these new teeth.

* The sooner you bring your child to our practice they will be more comfortable with future visits, and avoid any dental anxiety.

* Baby teeth are very important to maintain adequate space for the erupting permanent teeth. It is important these teeth are checked regularly to help keep them healthy, and free of dental decay.

It is very rewarding creating a positive first experience for your little one, hope to see them soon 🌟
