THREE-PEAT! DENTISTRY 24 – MEDICINE 17 🏉🦷
Three consecutive victories over Medicine — 2019, 2024 and now 2026!
The Medicine vs Dentistry rugby match has been a wonderful tradition for many years. Historically, Medicine may have had the upper hand 😄, but since 2019 our Dentistry boys have certainly turned things around — and this year they made it three in a row!
But for me, this is about much more than winning a rugby match.
Watching these students train, compete, support one another and ultimately celebrate together reminds me why sport is so important alongside a demanding profession like dentistry.
Teamwork, resilience, determination, discipline and learning how to win — and lose — together are qualities that will serve them far beyond the rugby field. Dentistry itself is a team profession. No matter how good we become individually, we achieve very little without the people around us.
Just as importantly, I hope these young dentists continue to make room in their lives for sport, hobbies, friendships and interests outside dentistry. Our profession can be incredibly rewarding, but also demanding. Having something that allows us to switch off, look after our mind and body, and maintain friendships and perspective is so important for a long and fulfilling career.
I have been very proud to support and sponsor Dentistry Rugby over the years since 2013, but even prouder to see the friendships and camaraderie that have developed through it. Long after the score is forgotten, I suspect many of these friendships and memories will remain.
A huge congratulations to the entire Dentistry Rugby team, and particularly to those who put in the work behind the scenes to bring everyone together.
And a special acknowledgement to Dr Christian Yassmin for giving his time to train and prepare the boys. 👏. Also thank you Dr Paul Raphael Nakad for supporting and helping carry the well needed hydration drinks as it was a very hot sydney day yesterday.
24–17. Three-peat achieved. 🏆🏆🏆. But again it is not about the score, it is about the team bonding and all of the above-mentioned points.
Well done boys — enjoy this one. You earned it.
