Meet Dr Don Tom — a clinician who brings together calm confidence, clinical precision, and genuine compassion. With a strong academic foundation and a commitment to excellence, he delivers care that blends skill with heart.

Driven by continuous learning, Dr Don has special interests in restorative dentistry, root canal treatments, and gentle extractions, ensuring every patient experience is comfortable, reassuring, and truly patient‑centred.

“Charters towers and Townsville” felt like the right place to connect with a warm community and make a real difference. It’s more than work — it’s about being part of a place where care truly matters.”

We’re delighted to welcome Dr Don to the Smile Studio NQ family.

Dr Girish Basavaraj’s Journey

Migrating to Townsville in 2007, he spent five years serving in a corporate dental practice before realising a deeper calling — the desire to support smaller communities with urgent and accessible dental care.

Driven by this purpose, he established his first practice in Charters Towers in 2011. Over the years, he built strong trust, goodwill, and long‑standing relationships within the community.

In 2015, he expanded his commitment by purchasing Goldcity Dental Centre, later custom‑building a new facility in 2023 with the support of local tradespeople — a project that reflected his belief in investing back into the community.

His dedication has been recognised widely.
In 2023, he and his team received:
• Business of the Year Award
• Customer Excellence Award
• People’s Choice Award
from the Charters Towers Regional Council.

That same year, he was honoured by The Courier-Mail as one of Queensland’s most powerful and influential Indian Australians, and his Townsville practice became a finalist for Business of the Year.

In 2026, his leadership was celebrated again with three prestigious awards:
• Businessman of the Year
• Employer of Choice
• People’s Choice Award

Through every milestone, one thing has remained constant — his love for Charters Towers and his unwavering commitment to serving and uplifting the community he proudly calls home.

What an unforgettable evening for Dr. Girish and the entire Goldcity Dental Centre team.
At the 2026 Charters Towers Regional Council Business Excellence Awards, we proudly brought home three incredible honours:

• Employer of Choice — a testament to the culture, care, and respect we build every day
• People’s Choice Award — the most heartfelt recognition from the community we love
• Business Person of the Year – Dr. Girish — a special honour celebrating leadership, resilience, and unwavering commitment

Last night wasn’t just about trophies.
It was about every early morning, every late night, every challenge, every breakthrough, and every patient we’ve cared for with heart.

Dr. Girish’s recognition as Business Person of the Year is a proud moment for all of us — a reflection of his vision, grit, and the passion he pours into this community. But he would be the first to say this: These awards belong to the whole team. To the people who show up every day with dedication, kindness, and belief in what we’re building together.

Thank you to our patients, our community, and our incredible team. This is just the beginning. The journey ahead is brighter than ever.

Our very own Dr Heather Scott represented us brilliantly at this morning’s Business Breakfast hosted by the Charters Towers Regional Council.

It was inspiring to see her connect with so many driven and successful women shaping the future of business in our region.

Across our practices, we’re proud to have 32 incredible women who lead, support, innovate, and elevate everything we do.

A wonderful morning celebrating the strength, talent, and impact of women in business across Charters Towers.
