Today we helped an 11-year-old boy do something he had never done in his life…Stick his tongue out. 👅.......Now read that again.
He was tongue tied .Now imagine not being able to move your tongue properly for 11 years.
Not being able to clean food properly.
Not being able to move it freely.
He just learnt to adapt because his body had no choice.
He didn’t even know life could feel different.
🤔His mum said something that stayed with me:
“No one ever tell us to look at the tongue…”
We check teeth. We check cavities. We check brushing.
But how often do we stop and ask…
Can your child actually move their tongue freely ?
And perhaps the most profound part…
It took us approximately 11 seconds (ok… maybe a tiny exaggeration 🙃) to release a tongue he had been waiting 11 years to move freely.
11 years of compensation.
11 seconds of change.
And then came the moment I’ll never forget…
For the first time in 11 years, he stuck his tongue out.
I can’t explain why it felt so emotional…
But it felt like watching someone take their first steps.
A reminder that sometimes what a child silently struggles with for years…can change in mere seconds. ❤️
