So…this has been my year : I obtained second degree burns to my right (dominant) hand when a lighter exploded in my hand while making a fire in my fireplace. Two weeks later, I accidentally chopped my right index finger off while chopping wood. I’ve since had four surgeries to my right hand, with all surgeries unsuccessful, which means that I haven’t practiced as the dentist I have been training to be over the last twenty years. I had to reinvent myself and find what gives me joy outside of dentistry. One thing I am thankful for, is that being a great dentist has never been my identity; who I am, or what I am about, and that has made this transition so much easier. I have published my sixth (and most likely, final) peer-reviewed article in .dentistry December edition with my dear friend (assistant professor extraordinaire at in Boston, Massachusetts), which I’m very proud of. I am, and have been off social media for many months now due to some unexplained PTSD symptoms after the accident, that I can’t get a hold of. has taught me a few things, but one thing is that we’re all human and are flawed at our core. I have installed Instagram just to create this post, as I can’t read or respond to messages. If anyone feels like reaching out, please email me at [email protected]
