If you aren’t in the industry, Dentistry can sound like a completely different language and sometimes it’s a lot to take in - especially if you are anxious or in pain.

Fainting can be a very serious matter.

Our brave patient Tara presented to us yesterday for emergency treatment after fainting at home and subsequently injuring her face and teeth.

Tara suffered a fractured central incisor (11), a palatally displaced and mobile central incisor (21), a fractured lateral incisor (22), multiple lacerations and areas of severe bruising.

Tara did the right thing and went straight to the hospital after the accident. This is SO important as sometimes it’s the trauma/injury you don’t see that is the most dangerous.

Fortunately, Tara was given the all-clear at the hospital and Dr Emily was able to take care of Tara’s immediate dental trauma.

Dr Emily firstly removed the existing orthodontic wire which had bent out of place and was preventing repositioning of Tara’s front tooth. Dr Emily then repositioned Tara’s 21, restored her adjacent teeth, and stabilised Tara’s anterior teeth with a solid orthodontic wire. This temporary heavy duty wire is there to support the teeth, but will be replaced with a finer wire once everything is stable.

We’ll keep an eye on Tara’s teeth over the next few days, weeks and months to ensure everything settles as dental trauma can often have long term implications.

Remember:

1. Call your Dentist on the way to the hospital for professional advice as to what to do with your broken or avulsed (fallen out) tooth/teeth.

2 Always go to the hospital immediately to ensure you don’t have any other injuries or concussion.

2. If possible, keep your tooth or parts thereof in milk/saliva and take them with you to your emergency dental appointment.

3. See a Dentist as soon as possible after your injury (after the hospital of course) as time post-injury is a very important factor when it comes to treating dental trauma cases.

4. Stay with someone the night after your injury and have them keep an eye on you for any signs of concussion.

A big warm Ivy welcome to Tobi and Milly who have joined our Ivy Dental weekend team 🎊🥳

Tobi (front) has joined us with dreams of pursuing Dentistry when he finishes high school, and Milly (seated) is currently in her 4th year of Dentistry at The University of Queensland.

Milly and Tobi are in great hands on the weekend with Ebony (behind) who always keeps the mood bright and the day running smoothly.

Hi Everyone!

By now, you’ve probably seen the news that Mirvac has cancelled all Toombul leases and that the shopping centre will be closed indefinitely . . . but please don’t worry! Team TFD is still together! We’re still seeing patients at the moment and we will continue to work together as a team and practice to take care of our patients.

We have a lot of information to get to you (too much for a caption) so we’ll be posting a video in the next few days covering as much information as we can regarding our plans moving forward.

We were prepared for this news and have been working super hard since the floods to make sure we can continue to provide you with dental care in both Nundah and Everton Park. It has been a long haul, but we have so much positive news to share with you.

The past two days have been absolutely wild with all of the media interviews and the attention Toombul shopping centre has gained. In fact, this whole period has been quite surreal and stressful - but we are making it through thanks to the support of our patients, suppliers, builders in Everton Park & Nundah, equipment technicians, friends, family, peers in the dental industry, local MPs, the anime community (AAA) and members of the public who have offered us so much kindness and support during this time.

We would not be here, still standing strong, if it wasn’t for this support. Please know this has played an integral part in our personal well-being, and we are incredibly grateful for every hand that has been extended to us.

For those of you who don’t know, Ken and the team from Studio Solo (in Toombul) are still open. They have a beautiful little coffee shop on the corner of Collins Street and Bradbury Street in Nundah (just behind Toombul train station).
