Non-surgical palatal expansion is possible in adults.
This is a MARPE (miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expander). It anchors to the palatal bone through temporary miniscrews, which allows true skeletal widening of the upper jaw in many adults without surgery.
It’s a specialist decision, planned on CBCT imaging before any appliance is designed. Suture maturation, anatomy and airway are all assessed first.
