Dental implant or bridge?

If you’re missing a tooth, there is usually more than one way to replace it.

For some patients, a dental bridge may be a suitable option — especially if the neighbouring teeth already need crowns.

For others, a dental implant may be considered because it replaces the missing tooth without relying on the teeth beside it.

The right choice depends on your teeth, gums, bite, bone levels, budget and timeframe.

We’ve put together a simple guide explaining the difference between dental bridges and implants, and what to consider before deciding.

Dental sedation: do I need to fast?

This depends on the type of sedation being used.

For IV twilight sedation, fasting is required before your appointment. This is an important safety step and helps reduce the risk of complications during treatment.

For other options, such as happy gas or some forms of oral sedation, the instructions may be different.

Before any sedation appointment, we give you clear written instructions about eating, drinking, medications, arrival time and what to expect afterwards.

Your fasting instructions should be based on your appointment, your health history and the sedation option being used.

One of the most common questions patients ask about IV twilight sedation is whether they will remember their dental appointment.

With IV sedation, many patients feel deeply relaxed and may remember very little about the procedure afterwards. Some people remember parts of the appointment, while others remember almost nothing. This varies from person to person.

It’s important to know that IV sedation is not the same as a general anaesthetic. You are still breathing for yourself and can respond when needed, but the experience often feels much more relaxed and less overwhelming.

IV sedation may be suitable for patients who feel anxious about dental treatment, have a strong gag reflex, or need longer or more complex treatment.

Thinking about dental sedation, but not sure whether you’re suitable?

Sedation may be considered for patients who feel anxious about dental treatment, have a strong gag reflex, struggle with longer appointments, or need more complex dental care completed in a calmer setting.

Suitability depends on several factors, including your medical history, medications, the type of dental treatment planned, and the sedation option being considered.

At Dentistry on George, we assess this carefully before treatment and explain which options may be appropriate for you. These may include happy gas, oral sedation or IV twilight sedation, where clinically suitable.

A calm start to Monday morning.

Before the week begins in full, there is always a quieter rhythm in the practice — setting up each space, making sure everything is ready, and taking a moment before the pace of the day picks up.

These behind-the-scenes details matter. They help shape the calm, considered environment we want every patient to walk into.

And, when there is time, a quick cup of tea before the day gets underway!
