✨ What a wonderful night for our final study group of the year! ✨
It was fantastic to see so many new and familiar faces come together for an evening of great food, meaningful conversations, shared knowledge and learning. 🥂📚

A huge thank you to our two wonderful speakers:

🦷 Dr Sam Verco, who answered 10 common maxillofacial questions and shared some fantastic clinical insights.

💬 Dr Gerard Clausen, who provided valuable insight into consent and cost, sparking plenty of thoughtful discussion.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make our final study group of the year such a success. We’re so grateful for our wonderful community and the opportunity to learn and connect together.

26 year old male presented with a significant class II skeletal pattern, his main issue being an overbite. A Bimaxillary osteotomy with removal of wisdom teeth and upper 2nd molar teeth was performed. Surgical treatment was completed by Dr Sam Verco and Orthodontic treatment was completed by Dr Thomas Lo Dr Thomas Lo & Dr Wayne Ly

Corrective Jaw (Orthognathic) Surgery is performed with the aim of correcting the position of the jaw.

This will improve the person’s ability to chew, speak and breathe. Opting for this sort of surgery could be for personal, medical or functional reasons.

🌟 6 REASONS FOR CORRECTIVE JAW SURGERY 🌟

1. Open bite – When there is a space between the front top and bottom teeth, although the mouth is closed.
2. Receding lower jaw and chin – When the upper jaw is more developed than the lower jaw and protrudes ahead.
3. Protruding lower jaw and chin – When the lower jaw is more developed than the upper jaw and protrudes ahead.
4. A deformity following facial injury
5. Cleft lip and palate
6. Sleep apnoea or excessive snoring

A wonderful night on Wednesday night at the Mornington Golf Club.
Specialist Prosthodontist Dr Gidon Fixler gave an insightful talk on “To scan or impress, that is the question”.
